  1. Please help, scratch golfer can't control wedge flight !! Is anyone else having trouble controlling the ball flight with the new sm6 wedges, I got custom fitted (indoors of a mat ,not ideal) and am struggling with them. The flight is way too high and dies into the wind, shorter distance with less spin. I suspect its the shaft as the fitter wasn't keen to change from the standard shaft (as you don't tend to hit full shots with them, I do agree with this point), however Im really not enjoying them. Is the head much heavier on the new wedges compared to previous vokey's as i feel its a combination of a weak shaft and a heavier head. I currently play project x pxi 6.5, any help would be great.

You may want to consider going get re-fit by another fitter (and outside so that you can see the ball flight). Not sure if that is an option or not but if so worth considering.

BTW, I switched from the KBS Tour shaft to the KBS 610's and I love them!

    BCorcoran,

How long have you had them for? A good friend of mine was having a similar issue with his new SM6's. I'm not sure what shafts he has but after playing them for a couple weeks they got dialed in and he's hitting them really nice now. It may just be a case of needing to get used to how the ball reacts with them. Never know... Good luck!

    BCorcoran,

my best guess is (playing scratch / a 6.5 shaft) that you have a good amount of clubhead speed? Combining that with a brand new face → lots of spin, which can cause the ball to propel up, especially with headwind (which is what you pointed out, right?)
I had to get adjusted to the fact that I have new wedges with new grooves that produce more spin. I can only agree with Sam C, after a (short) while, I got that dialed in and am now able to really control trajectory / spin.
    Hope that helps!

i have a new SM6. it did take me 15+ rounds to get it dialed in, but I am chipping for one putts more than i used to
  6. I switch into KBS 610 wedge shaft, much more penetrating flight and nice feeling

I just recently got 2 new SM6 wedges, and I think the distance control and flight is perfect. I use the wedge flex, and could not be happier.

I have to think getting fit for wedges on mats is less than ideal. Considering a big part of wedge fitting is the bounce you really need to see how your club interacts with the turf when you hit. All of which of course affects ball flight / spin.
  9. Most comments have been about the shafts. From what you have describe, it could be a problem with the ball rolling up on the face as you hit it. Try using more of a hook swing to keep the ball flight lower. You'll fine you can control spin and distance wayyyyy better like this. Unless you have graphite shafts in the wedges, I can almost guarantee that it's not the shafts. If all else fails, ask your local pro. I'm sure he/she would be happy to help.
