I recently purchased a new set of custom 716 AP1 Custom Irons. After purchasing these irons I am having difficulty turning the club head over (fading shot) so I went to my PGA Professional for a lesson. During the lesson, the Pro hit a few shots since we have the same setup on our irons (1/2" long, 2 degrees upright). He mentioned that my clubs felt heavy and put it on a machine to measure the swing weight. He said my clubs are weighted as D5. He also mentioned that with 1/2" clubs he would have thought that the Titleist club fitter would have reduced the weight in the iron heads to compensate for the 1/2" added length over standard.

Can anyone respond to my Pro's comment with regards to the swing weight? Is D5 a standard weight for 1/2" long clubs?

I've only hit my clubs on the driving range three times and wanted to know if I have any options to reduce the swing weight of my brand new custom clubs.

Hi Jason, When custom orders are placed, they will ask for a swingweight preference. If no swingweight preference is specified, we will build to specs based on components chosen. We have to assume that the player was fit for the clubs and would have hit them just as they would have been built without changing anything. In your case, if your shop specified standard shafts at 1/2" long, 2 up, std weight grip with std wraps, the swingweight for that combination would be D5.
Your shop could have specified a lighter or heavier swingweight at the time of order. At this time, your shop can set up an inspection and the Repair department can take a look and see if it can be made any lighter. If it can be made lighter, it would only be by about 1 or 1.5 swingweights due to the fact that a standard weight head was used.
