  1. I have recently moved from a set of png i25s, which were 1/2 inch longer and 1.5 degrees upright from png standard to a set of 716 AP1s which are standard lie and length, I was fitted for both of these sets by registered fitters.

Due to injury I have not had a chance to use the AP1s but I was at the range tonight and hitting them well but noticed at the end of my session that the range mat had left a mark on the toe end of the sole near the leading edge. this mark was about 1 inch long.

Anyone have any suggestions why this is the case and is there a big difference in the set up between the two set ups outlined above.

Thanks in advance for any advice.#

  2. If the fitters both knew what they were doing, you could be unconsciously choking up on the new ones due to feel of grips or something. It could be a stance change due to the injury or the downtime. If I had that problem, I would wait until I used them on grass. Assuming you are right handed, I can't imagine you would not notice the club twisting right if you were hitting the toe end of the sole harder, especially on a mat. It could also be a more frequently hit spot in the mat being more fatigued than the other areas, maybe. Also, the sole of the AP1s appears to be a bit wider than the i25s. Don't know if that would cause it. I would just hit them on grass (or a longer version of turf like the fairway/rough combo mat you can buy at sporting goods stores) as soon as possible and see if you can tell they are pulling off line or feel too short.

Having looked up the specs of both sets, the Titleists are more upright than the png's through the set. If you Google "png i25 specs / Titleist AP1 716 specs (separately) you can see the info. For instance the 4i is a full degree more upright while the 8i is half a degree.
  4. Thanks for that guys. Just probably being a wee bit paranoid. Unfortunately living in sunny Scotland it'll probably be another four or five months before getting back playing on grass!!

    Thanks for your help.

    Cheers
