  1. Hi all,

I recently had my son fitted in the Belfry for a new set of AP2 Irons (4-PW), he has since grown approximately 2 inches in height. (He is now 5ft 10 and 13 yrs old playing off 5). The clubs were made 1/2 to 3/4 inch under standard, something at the time I thought was a little too much... but that's another story.

So... what would be the best way to increase the length of the shafts to standard? Or would they be better res-shafted? Please consider the financial restrictions as having spent £700 + would rather not get into another set of clubs, as currently that's not an option

    Your thoughts would be appreciated.

    Regards,

    Rob.

Your local fitter should be able to add in shaft extenders to re-lengthen the shaft.

    Hi RRumsey,

That's a great question and I'm sure you'll experience this a lot as your child continues to grow. As E92335 said, you could take it to your local fitter/golf shop and they should be able to add an extension to the end of the club and then of course, put on new grips. This is the fastest and least costly way to get the clubs back to standard, versus reshafting. But just remember, to have them check the overall swing weights, lofts and lies as well, since you are changing things around.

I would see a certified Titleist fitter. Something you need to be aware of, if you just get the shaft extended it could change the swing weight which will feel different when swung. That all depends how much you extend the shaft, generally no more than an inch. Reshafting the sticks is the better option in my opinion.

I'm with Darron's idea. He'll only grow taller even more...

Yes I too agree with reshafting.

Actually what shaft his he playing? If it's a Dynamic Gold, or other lower cost iron iron shafts (not lower quality, just lower in price) I'd just reshaft them. The cost of pulling grips, adding extensions, and then new grips the the difference may be $40-60.

But if he's playing an expensive iron shaft, like Steelfibers, or Modus, or KBS C-Tapers, then maybe putting and extension wold be a way to go.

But again, I'd just spend the extra few dollars and have it done right. If he's 5'10" I can't imagine he'd grown more than 1-3" more. So the new reshaft, done correctly could be the last growing pains on your wallet for awhile (yes that's a horrible pun).
