Hi. I currently have 710 ap2s and i am thinking of saving up and treating myself to some 716 ap2s for my 50th birthday this month. I currently have dynamic gold r300 shsfts in them which i do like but my flight is very high and sometines i wonder if the fhaft is a little weak for me. I have tried the s300 in a friends club that i hit well but they seem really heavy to me. Would a stiff shaft in a lighter shaft maybe a better option for me? Do you still do a superlight shaft in your ap2 range? I play off 5 and i have been fitted for stiff shafts in my woods and rescue. Kind Regards. Mark S.

Mark, do yourself a big favor an go get fitted for the new irons, also. The AP2s are great clubs, but also hit the AP1s so you can get a fair comparison. The new AP1s provide great distance and very forgiving. As you know a good fitter will allow you to try a number of shafts until you find a correct match up. I am 70 years old play the 716 AP1s with the XP105 S300 shafts but only after going to a fitting. Sold my 714 AP2s XP95 S300 shafts because I was hitting them to high and to the left and not getting the distance I desired. Getting refitted by another fitter who was Titleist certified corrected my problems. Thanks Titleist for the Titleist Thursdays and making golf fun again.

Thanks Chuck for your reply and advice.
I will book a fitting. I was maybe thinking of trying AP1 in the 3 and 4 iron and AP2s in the other irons. I will try both but my heart goes with the AP2s as I do love mine but they are just getting a bit old now. How does the xp shaft differ from the dynamic gold?

As Chuck mentioned, definitely go and see an authorized Titleist fitter, as there have been a lot of new shafts come to the market since your 710 AP2s.

But it's also a bit odd that you play the R300, but then say the S300 are really heavy. The difference between the two shafts is only about 2 grams.

As you mentioned, going with a lighter shaft might be great, there are plenty out there, where they might be in the low 100's in grams and still feel pretty close to what you are used to.

Let us know what you end up getting.

    Thanks Samuel,
Yes i will thanks. Yes the S300's just seem much more heavier n dead feeling but i did hit them quite well. Longer but lower flight.
I did have superlights previously in a set of mizunos but were reg and I think im a bit stronger now with swingspeed up a little.
    Il let you know.

As others have stated, you need to find a certified Titleist fitter. That is the only way to know what shaft you really need. Also, remember that a change in any component (club head, shaft, grip) will seem like a major change. Ultimately, you have to be patient with the process and become comfortable with any changes that you make during your journey to lower scores. Please keep us posted.
