  1. Just a note of a personal experience. I am a decent ball striker, and have played Titleist MB irons for at least 30 years. Currently 716T-MB. My newly fitted 917D3 has been great but I was not as accurate as desired. I choked down about 2 inches on the grip and accuracy improved to a miraculous extent. I had the shaft then cut to 43.5 and have never been happier and have no loss of distance. Just thought others might be interested. Perhaps as I have aged the longer length was not appropriate and that appears to be correct. The shaft BTW is the spectacular Fujikura Speeder in driver, 917F fairway and 816 hybrid.

I had my 915D2 cut to 44" and also am quite happy with it-I actually gained some distance and more consistency/accuracy because I'm hitting the sweet spot every time.

Curious though, you said this was newly fitted? The fitter didn't pick up on shortening the shaft?

I also noticed a massive improvement in accuracy and consistency when I had my driver cut down to 43.5 and haven't seen any loss in distance although I would happily sacrifice a few yards off the tee for accuracy!
  4. I'm glad you posted this. My dad (68 years old) wanted to do this to his 910 driver to try it out. I read that you would have to change the weight in the head to keep the weight the same and that it would not feel right if you didn't. I'm glad you like it and its working for you. I might just have to cut it down for him to try.

Did you change to a heavier sole weight to add swingweight? Or play it as is?
