I just did a fitting at my local PGA Superstore - and the best performing irons for me were the AP2s with Project X LZ 5.5 shafts. I currently have Dynamic Gold SL R300 shafts in my current irons (miz).

I know the PX LZs are now stock shafts - but had to be custom ordered because they are not in stock. However, I did not try any KBS shafts during the fitting. Does anyone recommend a KBS shaft to try out as well in a similar weight (100-115g) before looking into ordering the AP2s?

I play the KBS C-Taper Lite in the 714 AP2, and can't complain!

not sure if it's available as a custom order but what about the Nippon Modus3 105 (103g-112g)? have the 105x (112g) waiting to go into my 714 AP2's. got fitted into them at my local shop. love the feel and ball flight i got with it.

I played KBS Tours for a couple of years, nice shafts. It appears that the PX LZ shaft has similar flight profiles with no upcharge compared to KBS upcharge. Depends on if you prefer the feel of the KBS over the LZ???

I'd say if you got for the PX LZ's then I'd spend the extra few bucks for them, or get another fitting where stock shafts are the main concern.

If the PX LZ's were the best fit you might always have that in the back of your mind, and confidene is king (JMHO).

I think in the long run going with what's proven to the best, or proven to be at least second best from fitting is the way to go instead trying to find a shaft in the same weight range. AP2's are not cheap. Might as well do it right the first time.

If you get fit and the #'s look good, I wouldn't waste any additional money on a "specialty shaft". Go with the fitters advice. I had KBS in my last MB's, X100's in my current set, can't see a significant difference. A fitting a few weeks ago we didn't even pull one out........Still DG's for me!!.....

I was determined to have KBS shafts in my AP1's and 3 x Vokeys, but I was 6 yards longer with better dispersion and better spin figures with DG300 regulars. Bit the bullet and dropped from 9.4 to 7.0. Can't argue with the numbers.
