Hi just stated playing regularly after a long lay off. Currently have Wilson fat Shaft. I am going for a full bag fitting in 4 weeks time.

Having read lots of reviews I would like,

    716 AP2s 5i to Pw

Driver, 3 wood, & 5 wood (or would forget 3 wood and get 5 wood)

    Sm6 wedges 52, 56 & 62

    Thoughts welcome on this.

Getting fit by a certified Titleist fitter is the first step and I am sure he will make some right recommendations for you game/handicap. Wow, W/S fat shaft. That has been a few years. Had a fat shaft driver before I retired and that must have been in 2010. Might consider Driver, Fairway and Hybrid. The 816 hybrids are awesome and are a nice fill in club. Would recommend hitting them. It's all about the shafts.

I worked at Sports Authority in the golf section (for what seems like forever ago) and remember the fat shafts well. If you want a good looking club with forgiveness then I think you should look into the AP1 line. I went from the AP1 to the AP2 and there is definitely a big difference in size of head and forgiveness. I like your style though MBlack...go big or go home! Hope you enjoy the new set and play your heart out there on the course. Let us know what you went with!

Well, there's lots about your game that you've failed to share, but the bag you're looking at is pretty much the same as mine, although my AP2 year is older. You have room for one more club, which in my case is currently a 24* 913H, but might soon be a 21* 915F. It's a great setup, covers the course well.

My only question for you, is how is your ball striking? Knowing what I know now, I might have opted for an AP1 5 & 6 iron, and AP2s the rest of the way. My mishit with longer irons is to hit fat, and the more rounded sole of the AP1 I think would certainly help me out.

Good luck with the new clubs!!

If your going for a fitting go in open minded! That way you get the most out of your fitting.

AP2's will give you great feel and shot versatility. You might want to look at putting in a hybrid. They are long and easier to hit out of the rough compared to maybe a 5 wood.

I love the new 716 AP2's. currently play 4-P with H1 19* hybrid as 3 iron. You may want to try the 816 hybrids for long iron replacement, forgiving and easy to hit high & soft. Your fitter would be able to help you with the gapping.

Getting a full bat fitting will be the best thing for you. If I were looking at the AP2 irons I think I would look into getting a 50 degree gap wedge to get more consistent gapping with the scoring clubs.
I played with just a 5 wood and no 3 wood for awhile which worked well until I started hitting the 5 wood very well and then went and added the 3 wood anyways. So if I could I would buy both together.
All those clubs are great and with a good fitting sounds like a great bag.
  10. Congrats on taking the next step to having an amazing set of golf clubs! I would caution you though to walk into the fitting with NO thoughts and let the fitter walk you through the process. You might be surprised where you end up!

    Good Luck! Chris

    Hi guys,

Thanks for all your replies my fitting is with a certified titleist fitter.

There is not a lot i can really say about my game. I dont have a handicap due to not playing regularly. Then from March 2015 till March last year not playing at all. This was due to a collapsed/ crumbled disc in my back.

This January I decided to sign up for lessons and join a golf club. I am playing once a week sometimes twice a week.

I would guess my handicap would be around 18 hopefully. I can strike the ball very well but lack of consistency lets me down, ie moving my head way before I hit the ball not coming inside enough to make most of my power.
But these are all things down to me and not the clubs.

My fitting is at the end of March.

Glad to see you making the switch, Titleist will not let you down! All things being said I think going from Wilson fat shafts to ap1's might be a little better of a transition for you!
