  1. Hello all, I am new here but I have been a golfer my whole life. After many years of hitting whatever clubs available I have started to go down the path and getting fitted for a set of irons. I play a set of blades now but I am looking for that forgiveness that the new irons will bring. I like the thin top line but I like something where I can work as well. I am a 10 Handicap is that matters at all. I just want to hear what some of you play and what made you choose that set or that mix or sets.

  2. I play a mix set of CB 4-6, and MB 7-pw. I have played blades for over 20 years and I can't bring myself to change due to the look. I love the thin top line of blades. The CB's are just a tad thicker and I have been able to deal with it. I am looking to go back to a full set of MB's though. The ap2's were just a little to big for me visually. I would just see if you can find a certified titleist fitter and hit them all and see what you come up with.

I've been a Titleist junky for many years and just upgraded my AP1's to the 716 T-MB's. I have hit all the new 716 clubs and found that the T-MB was the club for me, check them out if you can. I selected the T-MB's because they offer a little forgiveness with tour like workability. They added 10 mph ball speed off the face more than the AP2's, CB's or MB's. They fit my swing the best. Either way, any of the clubs you are asking about are very workable and will give you game. Make sure you hit them all. Good luck in your search.
  4. Hey Tim, I am in the same boat, I have played blades for the last 8 years but wanted to move into a cavity back iron. I am struggling with the slight offset as much as anything. I got AP2's with the same shaft and swing weight as my gamer set. Love the feel just something to keep in mind..

Welcome to Team Titleist. I play the CBs which are great they have a great look from the top line yet provide that little bit of help on the strikes outside of perfect. They also felt a little bit smoother to me compared to the AP2s with plenty of workability. I would not think twice about doing a blend set with MBs in the higher lofted clubs. Definitely try all sets in the fitting and enjoy trying what Tutleist has to offer.

I'll say like I always do.. See a fitter and hit them all with all shafts... That said, the TmB might be up your alley!

What one individual likes varies to the next, but I'm a 5 handicap if that makes a difference and I play CB. I did get fit for those. I would think that AP2 or CB would be best with the criteria you are looking for.

    Hi Tim,

As a lot of responders on here know, If you can make it to a fitting with a Titleist fitter that would be the best bet to ensure you get the right irons for your game and desire. I am also a 10 handicap and LOVE my AP2 set. I think it is an awesome balance of workability, thin top line, forgiveness, and feel. I was sure these were the irons for me when I used to struggle with iron accuracy, and during the fitting, put my first couple of shots within 10 ft of the pin and then actually hit the 160 yd pole I was aiming at with the 6 iron (had height to carry another 10 yards). Ever since that moment I have been all in on Titleist and have been changing my bag over to all Titleist equipment. You will find a great community of players here that all have passion for the game and gear. Best of luck!

  9. I play 714 AP2 and they are amazing! Im also a 10 hcp and choosed the Ap2 for the same reason as you. The thin top line, a bit forgiving and a club i can work.

    best regards

I play a mixed set of MB and CB. I like the MB in the shorter (7-P) irons for the feel and workability. I play the CB in the 5 & 6 as they still give feel and workability but a bit more forgiveness.

I have done a number of fittings where we end up with CB in the short irons and AP2 in the longer irons.

AP2 for the exact same reasons you are looking for.
  12. First of all, thank you! I have a lot to think about for sure. I went to a certified fitter last night and brought a few 7 irons out on the course with me. I hit the CB T-MB and the AP2. I honestly hit the CB and the T-MB with the best flight and consistency. I narrowed it down afterwards with the fitter and started to build a set of CB's with him. The order has been placed!
As for shafts I went with the DG AMT in an X. Does anyone have experience with this shaft? I did not soft-step them so I could keep that very "board" feel of the X.
  13. If you are looking for a compact profile with forgiveness I would take a good look at the AP2. They may look a little bigger than a traditional blade if you are used to that, but the added forgiveness could pay off. The CB has tungsten weighting in the 3-7 irons also, and I really enjoyed them when I was getting fitted, but I ended up going AP2 (because let's be honest, who doesn't need a little forgiveness - unless you are playing at Augusta this weekend).

It comes down to indivudial preference, but definitely go hit them all and get fitted.
  14. I prefer the cbs! I am playing a set of ap2s now and I do like them, but I really miss my set of cbs. Probably the best all around iron I ever played! I still get a little spin and a little workability but had more with the cbs!
  15. I played a set of ap2's for years, just picked up a set of 714 Mb's off a buddy and i'm not sure what set i like more at the moment. But you will not be disappointed with the ap2, and it will give you that little bit of forgiveness
  16. Personally, I play a mixed set. It goes,:

    3i = 716 TMB

    5i-7i = 716 CB's

    8i & 9i = 716 MB's

    46°, 50°, 54°, 60° = SM6's

This is my dream set because I love the classic looks of the CB's, and the TMB is literally my favorite in-play club off the tee. 3i just seems to go forever, lol.
