Was lucky enough to get the call form Mike DePaolo and was invited to the Oceanside facility to be fit for the 917 Driver. Upon arrival I was greeted by the staff and given the tour of the TPI gym, Iron Byron ball testing room and the wedge and short game facility. Fitter Lucas Bro took my 913 D2 and it was off to the long game area. There wasn't a blade of grass out of place. My old set up was 913D2, 9.5@C2, Graphite Design BB 7X 45".

New driver: 917D2, 8.5@B2, Diamana White D+ Ltd 80TX Tip 1" 44". Draw SureFit CG, D6 Swing Weight.

Going from 9.5 to 8.5 my overall spin was reduced by 375 rpm. Increase on 8 yards and 19 yards total with the shorter and heavier shaft. landing angle improved by reducing land angle from 43 to 39degrees.

My take away was not knowing or thinking I was doing better by self-fitting was pure lunacy. The ball seemed to stay on the face longer and rolled out a lot longer than the 913. Id say take advantage of the Titleist facilities on both coasts, hitting new Pro V1X's and seeing real time info from Trackman was invaluable.

    Thanks to the TT staff!

Congrats Todd. You hit the ball pretty darn good with that other driver. Titleist fitters know their business and that is why I always go see one, one every purchase. Great decision.
  4. Going to get fitted for the new 917. looking to decrease my launch angle (it's me that's causing the fault, but need an excuse to buy the new gear, lol). I love the new gray color, and am intrigued with the new weight system. Will report my results thursday :)

I had a similar trip to TPI for the 917, and my own expertise at fitting my own 915 was truly just awful compared to what Dino got out of me with the 917. I cringe when someone solicits advice on this forum about what shaft would work for them. Titleist offers hundreds of shafts because we are all so different in our mechanics and abilities. If anyone wants to squeeze out the best value of their club investment, if they have to go 3 hours each way to at least get to an Advanced Fitting Center, then do it. Getting fit by a retail clerk from a bag with 8 shafts hitting into a net is almost certainly leaving strokes on your score. Nothing is more expensive than paying full price for the wrong club.

I had the pleasure of being at a titleist event today at Heritage golf club in Wake Forest, N.C. Got fitted for driver, fairway metals and hybrids! Great experience, Titleist fitter was fantastic!

Congrats Todd. What a great experience that must have been. After being fit by the Titleist staff a few years ago for my SM5 wedges I became a true believer. Thanks for sharing.
