Im seriously considering being fitted for 5-9 and going with Vokey PW, 50 54 60. I've been playing Pings for 12 years and am ready for the upgrade. I'm a 12. Love the feel of Forged. Wondering what the comments are out there jumping from Pings...to these and what the forgiveness experience here is. Looking to increase my distance somewhat and not give up some of the forgiveness the Pings always seemed to offer.

I would imagine I can order mixed set with irons and Vokey wedges. Thanks for your input.

I played the eye 2 irons back in the day and I went to a demo day and hit the Ap1 irons before they came out a and loved them. I ordered them on the spot. That being said png makes a great product but I like my Titleist a little better. Just my 2 cents.
    thanks Mike #TT
  3. Hi

I actually changed from I25 to AP2 and have dropped from 13-9. I would say just get fitted at a genuine fitting centre as you may end up with a PW instead of a 46 depending on the lofts etc you get fitted for.

I honestly could not tell the difference in forgiveness between the two but the feel on the AP2 is amazing the pings could not get near them.

Have fun and I hope you find the combo you are looking for

I am currently carrying a 9.0 hcp. index. I have the Vokey 50,54 and 58 wedges and also the png W 54 and Glide 58 wedges. I have played both and my personal feelings is that the Vokey's feel lighter and are a little shorter in distance than the Pings. For greenside bunker play they are about the same. I currently use the Vokey's in the house chipping rubber golf balls and have the Pings in my bag. I have read that you should replace your wedges after 75 rounds but that seems a little expensive to me. My wedges are all 3 to 6 years old and I am probably due to replace my 54 and 58 but the jury is out on what brand I go with. I do think that the biggest improvement score wise is having a good short game to get up and down with chipping, pitching and greenside bunker play.

The AP2's are great clubs, but If you go to a fitting go in open minded and let the clubs pick you. The MB and CB are also great clubs. Not to mention the verity of shaft options. Getting a Vokey for P wedge shouldn't be a problem but let the #'s pick them lofts for proper gapping.
  6. I suspect you'll get the sage advice of getting fit to see if you get along with the AP2s. In my case, I bought my set with the hopes my game would grow into the clubs (previous set was swoosh Covert Forged). I've shot my best round ever with them then shortly after struggled with my game...which a lesson sorted out. Now striking the ball better than ever.

To answer your questions, I've lost distance but not by much...the real benefits are the distances are so much more consistent and the tighter shot dispersion. I don't need to hit a 7 iron 180 yards half the time , I need it to go 160 'every' time.

My mishits are straighter and not penalized too heavily. I was fortunate that my 716s work for me but probably should've gotten fit to optimize shaft performance.

Many thanks to you all. Tweeking our golf bag and constantly being influenced with great looking new products is a temptation I've avoided for a while. 24 months ago I jumped to the new 915D2 Titleist Driver,915F and 915H. Was fitted in Irvine Roger Dunn Store. It changed my long game forever. SOLD. That process is something I can not recommend highly enough.

Now its on to my irons. Which I think I will as Todd mentioned I will let the clubs pick me. So I'll try both models 716 AP1 and AP2.

Joel you hit the nail on the head about shaft performance. It was key in the 915 fitting and believe it will also be equally important in irons regardless of the one I select.

Appreciate your input guys...thanks so much!

    Enjoy Your Golf!

Done and Done. Scheduling a fitting with Jim Pooler Titleist Fitter in Santa Ana Roger Dunn. He fit me so perfectly with my 915 D2, DF and H...Changed my life off the T. I've never felt more comfortable and confident hitting a Driver, Fairway and Hybrid. So I my wife just told me...lets go get your new Irons and Wedges. It's your A 32 year Anniversary gift! Stoked beyond Stoked!!!! BTW...if you live in So.Cal and looking to get the best fitter around...get an appointment with Jim Pooler- He's the best IMO.
  9. Congratulations on your 32 years! My wife doesn't share the enthusiasm your wife does for golf club purchases...maybe she will for our 32nd, which is only another 16 years lol.
