Replacing old AP2's

    Hi - really a quick question for Titleist (UK) rather than a discussion, but feel free to chip in with your views if you feel the urge. I contacted an authorised Titleist fitter recently (they shall remain anonymous) specifying that I wanted to try the new AP2, AP3 and T-MB heads with a True Temper XP-95 shaft in my appointment request. The reason I was able to get so detailed was down to the hard work of my Club pro - Ian Roper @ Corhampton GC) over the last 2-3 years helping me with trying to find a replacement fro my ageing AP2's. Anyway - got to the appointment and I was handed a miz club with their "shaft selector" gizmo attached - this apparently determined that my swing was suited to a different shaft and not the XP-95. The XP-95 shaft was 9th on the list apparently. Anyway - this fitter only had AP2 and AP3 heads - no T-MB heads and no XP-95 shaft. Went away having felt that the entire experience was a waste of time as none of the combinations he tried felt right. The pro at the fitting centre said he had now ordered the T-MB fitting kit at great personal expense and they would provide me with another fitting free of chance once it had arrived. I can't help feeling that unless he also has the XP-95 shaft it's going to be another waste of time..................we shall see (and check beforehand!) So Titleist (UK) have you heard of similar feedback from others or is my experience fairly isolated? Thanks Steve

    I myself paid for a fitting and after speaking to the pro, decided to wait for the 718's to hit first. She had all the heads and shafts i could have possibly wanted. One of the reasons I did wait patiently was as a TT member i read about how wonderful everyone's experience was all over the world with getting fit by Titlest pro's and reps. I havent really read about too many bad experiences at all. It could have been just an off day. But if they are going to give you anohter go round at no cost i would go for it with an open mind. You can also contact Titleist UK as well if you had any other questions or need other references for fitters. Also here on the website there are directories for fitters and fitting centers as well

    Hi Stephen, We have forwarded your note to our UK office and you should be hearing from them shortly. The XP 95 shaft was a standard shaft for our 714 lineup of irons (2013-2015) and very few, if any will have that shaft available for fittings. They may, however have the last generation shaft for the 716 family of irons, the XP 90 available. There is about a 4 gram difference in weight, but ball flight, feel and spin should be very similar. Every two years when we introduce our new clubs, we evaluate our fitting matrixes, and we select the shafts that have been either 1) fitted and ordered the most or 2) been the most requested 3) shafts that have been preferred by our consumer testing groups or 4) up and coming shafts that we feel will be good shafts in our new heads. We, unfortunately, cannot keep all the shafts that were previously used generations prior to the newest irons. The latest lightweight standard shaft is the AMT series - also made by True Temper. The AMT Red weighs slightly more in the short irons, 9 and PW, about the same in the 8 iron and a few grams lighter in the 4-7 irons.
