When the SureFit adapter was introduced in the 910 driver, I was told that shafts were tipped 1/2" to play true to flex, presumably because they don't end up as deep in the head as a glued driver so the tipping makes up for the BBGM.

However, I'm now hearing that only some shafts in the 917 drivers (maybe 915 and 913 too) are tipped 1/2" by default, and the 1/2" tipping in the 910 was actually to make them play the same flex as previous bore-thru drivers. However, that doesn't make sense because the 909 were blind bore and the SureFit adapter definitely results in a different BBGM.

Can anyone confirm which story is true?

I too would be interested in this.

For reference, I play a 915 D2 with the stock Diamana D+ 70 stiff shaft. I've tried to upgrade twice to 2 different aftermarket shafts (both un-tipped), and both times the performance did not feel right. Someone had mentioned this 1/2" Titleist tipping rule to me as well.

I've not heard this before and had just installed a 2014 Fujikara 661 stiff Speeder in my 913 D3 head. My fitter never mentioned this and he is super detail oriented and communicative. Lastly it woke up my driver play and I don't think about changing it.

Hi, When we initially went to the 909, we tipped most shafts 1" to simulate the bore through depth. In the 910, we tipped similar to our current build. Shafts are not tipped on most stock Diamana shafts and other shafts are tipped 1/2". We tip some shafts to play to what we believe to be true to spec and others because our Titleist players coming from other Titleist clubs are used to a certain tipping. There is no industry standard and every OEM is free to tip to their preference.
Keep in mind, we will tip between 0 and 1.5" upon request when building an initial order.
