    Hello Team Titleist,

I am finally taking the plunge and upgrading my old Titleist 962 irons. I have an appointment at a Titleist Thursday soon and have a few questions for the discussion board.

I went to a Titleist Thursday last summer for a new driver fitting and to be honest felt that it was a waste of my time as the fitting professional never used a Trackman, had me hit 1 shaft, and only modified the internal weighting of the one head he had me hit. I grew up golfing and working at courses in college so I would not consider my self a novice by any means, but I acknowledge I am not an expert. I was his last appointment of the day and felt as if he was taking a pass on providing a good fitting.

Considering the investment for new irons I am wondering how you all knew you received a good fitting? Did the fitter use a trackman and make multiple switches during your fitting...etc.?

Any information will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

I had a TT last fall with the 718 irons. We worked through AP1 and AP3s with both graphite and steel shafts. Used a Trackman and I hit 50-60 balls to determine which shaft worked best in the AP3 that worked out better than the AP1. Also compared the 816 with different shafts in the 818. As it turned out, the shaft change was an improvement. ...I was hoping to not improve on the 816s. Can't complain, I'm hitting more greens in regulation.
  3. I had a fitting at a local golf shop where they have a Trackman in a private bay on their range so could see numbers and actual ball flight. Did a 45-minute session to narrow down long irons (AP1s) and short irons (AP3s) and shaft. Fitter had me come back four days later for a 30-minute session to reconfirm, then pulled the trigger. I felt more comfortable with the two-session approach that I was getting the right set up. All of this for no fee, and no pressure to buy.

Sorry to hear about your less than great driver fitting. I would suggest contacting Titleist and let them know and arrange for a second fitting. I've been fitted for my 714 irons as well as my driver and 3 wood. It was a great experience. Good luck!

Yes! You must have gotten a bad apple because I’ve been to 3 and they have all been great. I’ve been fitted for ap2’s and sm7’s and both times I tried different shafts, lifts & lies and grinds. We also used trackman to get my swing data. I would go back and try it again and maybe try to get an earlier appointment if you can just in case. Best of luck with the new irons!

I think it depends whether you go to your local pro or a fitting center.
My local pro didn't have all the variations of equipment for fitting, whereas a fitting center will or should have.
That said my local pro does have a proper golf studio and his knowledge base is excellent. All the relivant information was sent to Titleist and a week later one set of shiny new 716 AP2's. I think they are spot on and after a couple of lessons to sort out a couple of issues i am now hitting them even better.

Every Titleist Thursday I have been to (as one of the fitters) has had a Trackman. Not sure why you didn't use one for your driver fitting. We also try to use a number of different shafts to narrow the selection down and find the best performing one for the individual player.

I was told they are all suppose to have a trackman so if they don't that is a problem and a poor user experience.

Had a good fitting for irons in Del Mar last fall during a busy multiple company event. He used TrackMan and we tried AP1, AP3 and T-MB, all with multiple shafts. I was still on the fence as to which to choose so we scheduled a follow up Titleist Thursday at The Grand a week later. It also was a great fitting and helped me decide on the T-MB's with graphite shafts. I've been real happy with them.

yeah my guy had a trackman as well so maybe look for another TT? Yeah for irons you want to know that 6 iron spin rate as I tend to spin irons way too much so it's important to get those numbers right.

    Thank you so much everyone!

I thought I might have just got a bad apple that day but wanted to check with the TT community to see everyones thoughts. Looking forward to the fitting next week!
