AP2 / AP3 Fitting

    Hey All,

    I recently had a fitting by my local golf shop (GT) and came out with the AP2's, PXI 6.5 shafts, and a 50,54,58 vokey set.

    I heard about a Titleist rep coming by the shop a few days later so i waited until he came to place my order. As soon as I started swinging with him, he changed the set entirely to a AP2/AP3 combo set, Gold x100 shafts, correct adjustments for gaps, and a 50/54/56 vokey set (all 1 degree weak except the 56).

    My only concern before placing this order is the fact that I was so set on a full AP2 set that I'm having a difficult time switching up that after not entirely seeing a big difference. Anyone have any last minute suggestions here on how they would approach this and their experience with their sets. I am going to swing them again to get another feel but would love to hear what you all might have to say.

    Usually the combo set is desired for people that want a little more height and forgiveness on their longer irons. If you don't fell like that is a priority for you, nothing wrong with a full set of AP2's. You can always order a few AP3 single clubs later and switch them out. Go with your gut. Enjoy!

    Last year I was fitted for the 718 - AP2 5 - PW. by the Titleist that was doing fittings. During our session I tried both the AP2 as well as the AP3 ; with not much of a difference between the two models for overall distance. I was previously using the 712 AP2 model so I stay with the newer model as I was accustom to my distance that I was hitting them. If I would have change to the AP3 in my opinion it would take a season to learn all my new distances.

    Go with the full set of AP2’s.

    I would say if the changes between the irons from AP2 compared to AP3 are significant enough that it would make it hard to pull the trigger on the combo set. I think we all enjoy a bit of distance but I’m not one to sacrifice feel and looks at setup for a few yards. I hit both the ap3 and ap2 beginning of summer. I liked them both a lot but went with the ap2. If your able to get the ball up in the air and know your distances and gaps between clubs it’s really down to what you like and the feel of the club. If your doubting it now you may end up wishing you just went with the full set of AP2’s. You won’t regret them I sure don’t.

    Hey Daniel- I too am between thoughts on ap2 and ap3. Adjusting to the yardages is on my mind as well. But here is something else I am concerned about. My set now is 5 through pw, and then my wedges. If I go to the ap3 the loft on the 5 iron is a few degrees stronger than my current set, closer to a 4 iron I no longer carry for obvious reasons. My original thought is that the technology in the newer ap3 will overcome that issue, but I am not convinced. Something to think about. Would be good to hear from others with their thoughts from experience.

    If your AP2s are working fine, why change? As long as the grooves are OK....

    I have some AP2 irons 6-8 (I have a 42* "wedge" instead of a 9 iron. My other wedges are 48-56-64).

    If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
