TS3 - EVFL anomalous swing weight?

  1. I recently purchased a TS3 with the EvenFlo 65g S from Golf Galaxy. I hit it well on their launch monitor and was guided into the stock length 45.5" shaft and S flex off the shelf club.

Taking it out to the driving range for the first time I started to find it took what felt like a lot more effort to swing than my current gamer which is an R15 with Speeder 57 S shaft. I took both drivers back to Golf Galaxy and asked them to test swing weight. The R15 came in at D4 and the TS3 at almost E0. That seems very heavy for a stock driver? Golf Galaxy wanted me to keep it at is and give it a try for a few weeks. Would removing head weight by changing out to a -4g weight be a good approach to reduce swing weight or maybe cut down 1/2"-1" to to try and get it back to D4-D5?

Is there something anomalous with this off the shelf club with an E0 swing weight that should have me asking to return and replace it with another club that comes in at what seems like a more standard D4-D5 swing weight? Thanks

Off the shelf at E0 is really unusual. A big box store telling you to try it for a few weeks is probably not so unusual. I'd push them to remedy the situation sooner than later. If they won't offer to help, try calling customer service at Titleist. Did you demo a fitting club with the Evenflo? If so, have them check that for swing weight. Get the weight of the weights with your club. Likely there will be lighter weights as an option. If the fitting was done at something closer to D4, then they should be willing to adjust the weights for you. If for some reason the head was shipped weighing too much not due to the weights attached, Titleist will remedy that.
if GG has a 30 day return policy for any reason like some other retailers, my personal comment is do it and run fast. I can usually negotiate a price at or just under retail for a custom order where I can specify grip and swing weight. And "they have my back". Over 90% of the time off the shelf is some kind of compromise from your best setup.
  3. Thanks Don. I'm not an expert but E0 seemed very high to me as well. To be honest I am growing more offended at their response to just "get used to it". While I'm not a tour pro, I do play to a 5 handicap and I know what I like and what works for me. Telling me to get used to a club that doesn't even come close to what I game now which they were aware of, makes me not want to go back to that store. I am going to take it back this weekend and ask to have one ordered directly from Titleist. I am curious if anyone knows what a stock TS3 at 45.5" with the Evenflow 65g shaft should measure for swing weight? Does D4 or D5 sound right? I need to know what to ask for from Titleist. Thanks

A direct order can specify swing weight in addition to shaft and grip. Most shafts today don't impact the SW as much as the weight is balanced across the shaft. During my fitting, I did try an Evenflo but it wasn't because of club head feel that it didn't work out. Felt similar to the Tensi Blue I ended with. You can call Titleist Customer Service and that should get you to the right person to ask what the SW should be.
Many retailers have to place their orders through "corporate" and have limits on what they can order besides what is stocked on the rack. I've been turned down to special order a LH club of the same specs of the RH rack item because they don't stock the LH version. Let alone weight systems or shafts from the matrix. Good luck.
  5. Stopped in this afternoon and met with one of the fitters. We pulled two other matching clubs off the rack and checked the swing weight. Both were D5. We weighed the heads from those clubs and compared to mine. They were within 2grams. The conclusion was the original shaft in my club was somehow way out of line. Not sure why there would be such wild variance but would suggest everyone check new clubs out thoroughly before the leave the store. Thanks again for your response.

I am thinking of the same setup for a new driver. I will check swing weight before leaving the store/Thanks for the post and info.
