  1. Hi all, I have followed a lot of conversations here about club fittings. But, I have a question... I have decided to replace my clubs (seriously old but that is another story) and after many trips to the local shops have decided on a new set of Titleists. My problem is, after all my visits to the shops, not one person suggested Titleist. I am a committed, hard working golfer. 14.1 handicap, down from 25.4 a year ago (play regular competitions, practise like a fiend, take lessons regularly to try to get rid of my slightly crappy swing and just want to work hard to get a lot better!) So, help me here, I want to do the full fitting (National Fitting Centre in France, I live in Belgium) and I sort of keep getting the impression this is not something I should be doing. Is a full fitting justified? Thanks in advance!

There have been multiple PGA events this year where Titleist was the #1 club in every or at least multiple categories. Going to shops you will be experiencing places that don't carry Titleist (can only carry so many lines), the staff have a personal preference, or in some cases, some of the Original Equipment vendors may have incentive discounts to the dealer. I suffer two maladies. I'm left-handed and almost 70. Not all companies support LH golfers and personnel under 30 don't often listen or understand that X400 shafts won't work for me. Once I found a Titleist Premier fitting location where the fitter worked to find the best combination for me, I have all the confidence I cannot do better with another brand.
Titleist stands alone with 2 year release cycles. With yearly release programs, and all new flashy designs, will you be getting the concept design that quickly proves it is a dead end plan and you'd have to replace them sooner than later?
One point about a full bag fitting. That is a lot of swings if you are not in shape. Otherwise have fun and know your Title1st clubs will not hold you back from your full potential.
  3. Thanks Don! I have wondered initially if it is because I am a lady and The vendors don’t have pink as an option on Titleist. I want the best equipment for my game and I am convinced Titleist can fit me properly. I am not worried about the 3 hours for the fitting, I pretty much live at the golf course.
    Thanks again!

My reason for choosing Titleist has always been that they make equipment for serious golfers of all skill and potential. From scratch to a 25 hcp, if you play regularly you want solid equipment not designed by the marketing department and won't prove to be a bad idea in a year. You want it fit to your swing and skill and this is the place. Selling a complete set of anything can't be fit to you alone. Selling a complete color coordinated set starting with a 1 Wood with no loft designation is really setting a low bar for interest in the game. You've made a good decision.
  5. Just a quick update. I happened to find a demo day at the course next door, booked a time and went for a trial. Fitter was fabulous! And Don, you were right 3 hours, in spite of how much I play and practise, would be a bit too much. I spent 1 3/4 hours trying different clubs, with tge fitter making all sorts of adjustments. Came away with an order for new AP1 irons, and a TS2 driver. Fitter suggested I wait to fill in the rest of the bag until after I know how these clubs will change my game. Overall great experience and now I cannot wait to get these clubs in my hand! And, even got a few samples of the new Pro V1, Pro V1x and the Tour Soft, to find a replacement for my beloved NXT Tours!

The bottom line is "if it hits, it fits". Like Don, I am an older player. 35 years ago, I could hit long irons and even carried a 1 iron. I teed off with a 3 wood since high school and didn't start using a driver until 2007. In 2006, I hadn't played golf in 3 years plus very little between 1993-2003. To top it off, I played with off the shelf clubs before 2006. I went to Titleist in 2012 and no looking back.

The benefit of a full fitting is set makeup. Many with slower swing speeds may not carry a 3 wood (15) and some may fare better with a 21 fairway instead of a 19 or 21 hybrid. Always have carried a 5 hybrid and 7 hybrid since about 2006 (the latter was primarily a backup for the 6 and 7 irons). Between 2007 until middle of 2018, didn't carry a 3 wood. It was 18, 19 or 21 fairway. A 915F 18 fairway was a turning point because it has the same lie angle as a 913F 3 wood. I finally found that a 42.5" shaft and a heavier head weight works for a 3 wood and I have gotten to the point of being able to hit a 13.5 fairway off the deck. Basically, from the 25H down to 64 are locked in.

  8. Just a quick update (again) received my new TS2 driver and AP1 irons on Monday. Played in a club competition on Tuesday. Wow, just wow! Driver is a beast and the irons are fabulous! Cannot wait to really get these in use and see where I can go this summer. Then the next step will be to fill in the rest of the bag between the driver and the 5 iron and see what wedges I can add.
    Thanks again for the comments!

Great Nola! Hey, there are a few spots still available for the Team Titleist Invitational at Whistling Straits. I know its a bit of a journey from Belgium but would be quite a vacation and you could show off your new sticks. If not, let us know under the "travel" post if you are ever over here and I am sure some local TT members would welcome you for a round or two of golf.

    Thanks everyone!
Dale I would love to play Whistling Straights but sadly it won’t happen this year. Same applies if you ever happen to be in Belgium make sure you post it on TT!
And I will post an update to let you all know how my summer has gone. As for now, it is back to the course for more practice. Must get ready for Belgium Interclub competitions April 27 & 28 and May 1!
