Becoming a club fitter.

    I'm interested in becoming a club fitter (for a brand, ideally Titleist, not at club level) once I leave my current job in the RAF.

    Does anybody know what is involved? For example qualifications, experience and how often jobs come around?

    I have a strong background in engineering and aerodynamics which I hope would hopefully be easily transferable along with my obvious passion for golf and interest in club technology.

    If anybody has any knowledge or experience of this it would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Ian, We require all our club fitters to have a good working knowledge of club fitting prior to hiring them. We train and refine their fitting techniques, but they all come in as experienced club fitters (in the US) We would suggest that you look around your area and see what course or range does a lot of club fitting and Titleist fittings. Talk to the head pro and let him/her know your interest in becoming a club fitter. Ask if you can shadow their best fitter and/or see if there are any openings for an assistant to learn about club fitting and clubs in general. Although you may not want to initially work at the club level, you will need to gain experience and knowledge of club fitting prior to working with us (as an exclusive Titleist fitter).

    Ian, While not a requirement, it certainly helps the process to have a solid knowledge of swing mechanics. Most of the fitters I know are pretty good teaching professionals too.
