    Good morning...

I’m in the market to upgrade my irons. As indicated, i’m 69 years old and currently playing 710 AP2 with projectX 5.5 shafts.

I’m a USGA HC 7.5 Index and it’s been going up the past few seasons from 5.4.....my iron distance suffers and my 7 iron is typical travel at 130-140 yards....I hit my friends miz irons with lite graphite shafts and hit his 9 iron that same distance. I’m going to pga superstore to get fit, yet wanted your opinion about AP3 with graphite shafts.....

    Thanks in advance

For me, the AP1/AP3 were both longer than the AP2. Loft may have a lot to do with that. You also are using a 115 g low-mid launch shaft. You don't need to limit yourself to graphite. There are several options in the 95 g range in steel/steel wire range. I preferred the feel of the 95 g TT AMT-Red over the 65 g KK graphite, with similar launch characteristics. Depending on how fast your fitter dials you in, you could easily try a half-dozen shafts in addition to 2 heads.

We are hosting several Titleist Thursday fittings near you and when looking at irons, we would encourage you to get fit outdoors as well so you can feel how the sole goes through the turf. You have to sign up online and it will be a one on one fitting appointment with our product specialist. Here is a link to fitting days: www.titleist.com/.../appointments

Go with the Titleist fitting if you can find one. I've been to 2 PGA Superstores for fittings, and I won't name them, but one was informative and helpful, and one was a trip to the funny farm. The guy didn't even know what shafts were available, and when I showed him the list from Titleist he told me some were no longer available. Then I walked him over to the fitting station and showed him that KBS is spelled K-B-S. Also the indoor monitors are only as good as the guy who sets it up. Outdoors with a Titleist rep is the best option.
