  1. All of my clubs in my bag a fitted for me except for my wedges, I carry three Vokey wedges but have never had a wedge fitting. Can someone who has been fitted for wedges tell me if and how it helped? Did it change any of the wedges you carry?

Yes. Just got back from the TT event in Pinehurst where Bob Vokey personally helped in the fittings. They will assess the gaps within your set along with making sure lie and shaft flex are right for you. You can also get in a bunker and test bounce to find out what grind works best with your swing.

Everyone uses all the wedges differently. Any wedge you use a full swing needs to be distance-gapped with the next club. A good fitter can also talk to you about stock versus a custom shaft (typically to match your irons). Then your swing style versus course conditions will impact the grind. Not to mention it usually comes with some advice on how to adjust shaft angle and face opening in a bunker. I went from 4 wedges + PW to 3 (48F/54F and retaining a 60M for severe short sides). The 54 moved to the F grind for bunkers. On a blind test at Pinehurst, the F was easier to control than the M or S I used previously. Not that I understand grinds any better than before, but the demonstration in the bunker allowed me to feel which one was working better. I"m certain none of the other 30 had the same wedges as me.

I had a great fitting at Woburn and it was a real eye opener. From fairway to bunker, all shots were hit without knowing what bounce or grind you were being given. It means you don't have any preconceptions, you're just taking notice of the feel through the turf/sand at impact; the ball flight, the versatility. The fitter will quickly help you determine what combination of loft/lie/bounce and grind work best for you. I think the fitting was invaluable in getting the right bounce/grind combination. It has meant I have more options around the green and from bunkers, and far more confidence in the shot.
