I play a mixed set of AP2s/AP3s. The AP3s have AMT Blacks in them. I was fitted nearly 4 years ago for the AP2s (716), which have XP90s in them. Over time, my swing has changed quite a bit. Much better today. (11 index then, 5.4 today.) I don't think the XPs work best for me anymore. (I wasn't convinced they were right for me even back when I first got them.)

In order to minimize the distance gap between my AP2 7i and AP3 6 iron I would like to reshaft the AP2s with shafts that might offer me a little more distance. Additionally, to help the cause, I will strengthen the AP2s by bending 1-2 degrees. I suppose putting AMT Blacks in my AP2s would be the best transition to my AP3s, generally speaking, but I wouldn't get any added distance with those to help lessen the gap to my AP3s. So, through my fitting profile on-line at DG, I was "pre-fit" for the Project X LZ. They should fly a bit lower than the XPs and AMTs. I like that idea. I have done a lot of research on them and they have had great reviews. Due to their stiffer tip and butt sections, with a softer mid section, it seems most users/reviewers are seeing distance increases with the LZ. I was wondering if anyone here might be playing them in AP2s and what your opinion is.

Also, removing the old XPs and replacing them with either of the above-mentioned shafts will change swingweights. In theory, how much will I need to adjust weight in each of the four AP2 heads (P-7i) to bring them back to what they are now with the lightweight XPs in them? I realize, the AMTs are different weights, whereas the PX-LZs are constant weighted, so the answer would be different depending on which shafts I choose. The 5.5 PX weighs in around 115g if memory serves. I think the PW of the AMT is around 113g, but the 7i is closer to 104g. Either way, the swingweight on the old XPs should change enough that it will need adjusting during the reshaft.

Any help or opinions from Titleist techs or TT users would be appreciated. Thanks.

Being 716's, you could just have a golf shop re-shaft the irons and adjust the swing weight as part of the deal. There's likely a Premier Titleist Fitter in your area that can either do the work or recommend a reliable builder. You should also go through trialing 718 AP2 7 Irons with shafts to see what would work best. It may not be an exact match to your 716, but from my experience there is no reliable empirical substitute for actual hitting with the shaft outdoors.
Waiting until August/September and using the re-shafting expense for 4 new "2020" replacements can also be an option.

Yes, Don, waiting until the new ones come out is an option. I had planned to upgrade my AP2s anyway at that time. (Been playing and upgrading my AP2s since they were first introduced late in 2009.) I just hate to go through another season with the wrong shafts. By then I will have played over 150 rounds this year alone with them, God willing. That's a lot of golf with the wrong shafts, considering I already played last season about 175 rounds with those same less-than-ideal shafts.

I also agree that there is no substitute for hitting off actual turf, outdoors. I hate indoor fittings.

There is a Titleist Thursday's event going on every Thursday this month about 25 miles from my home. I may have to go for a ride.
