I have a complimentary fitting at True Spec's Boston location coming up in mid October. I was fit for my AP2 714's about 5 years ago now and am looking forward to seeing some new stuff and trying out new gear.

My swing speed has increased a bit since then, so I'm really curious to see if there are any better shaft options for me now and if Titleist will still be the best fit.

Anyone here been to a True Spec fitting recently in Boston or another location? What was you experience like? Anything I should prepare myself for?

    Thanks in advance!

Haven’t done True Spec. To be honest I have a bias against indoor fittings for irons. Off mats I get better results than on turf. So I promote Titleist Thursday’s - also complimentary, at golf courses. They will work with you for no up charge shaft options before promoting exotic options. Pro shops will order those club specs at the listed price. Other custom shops that build on site have been known to steer towards up charge components so a $170 club can approach double that price. Value, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. If non-standard Titleist components are promoted at a higher price, you still have a choice.

I agree with many of the things you said. I'm going to True Spec because it was complimentary.

I was fit for my 714 AP2's and they're still behaving excellently so I likely won't be making a change on those. I am most looking forward to trying out new drivers and seeing what they do for a wedge fitting. I need to replace those for next season and I feel like I need some more bounce. The D-grind looks really interesting to me because my miss is coming in too steep, but I do like to manipulate the face around the green.

I couldn't agree more with you on the inside vs outside element of it. Whatever the result of this fitting it, I'll be finding some way to hit them outdoors on real grass before making any final decisions.

I am a bit worried that they'll start me off with some sort of silly $400 upgrade shaft, but I think I can tell the fitter I'd rather start with what is a stock offering and work through upcharge shafts to see what performs better.

thanks for your feedback Don O!
