What do you want/expect most from a clubfitter?

    When you are looking to get new clubs and getting custom fit, what matters most to you during that experience? What would you like to see improved from previous experiences and what makes or made that experience a good one for you?

    No rush to judgement. My long-term coach/fitter and I go through multiple possibilities and he will take the time to explain why he recommends A over B. I've had similar experiences at TPI and Manchester Lane. It helps that my fitter has been at one of the limited Premier sites in Wisconsin for the close to 10 years I've been with him. I made the mistake of "free driver fitting" at a box retailer. Got exactly what it was worth. Limited time, no real explanation and amazingly enough, a rack driver was "what I needed". Too stiff and not enough loft on course. I was hoping for a new shaft for my 913 driver, but they don't have them on the floor. Find someone you trust and will work with you.

    Honesty! I want my fitter to put me into the correct equipment for my game and to explain in detail why he thinks a club or shaft is the correct option for me. I've gone to the same fitter for multiple fittings for woods & irons and am always impressed with the final result of the fitting, especially when I go in with an idea about what might work best for me and he proves to me that what I thought was not the best option.

    I appreciate the feedback, as someone that views things from the other side as a clubfitter I do fittings on a daily basis. I really enjoy working with people that are open to my feedback and recommendations and trackman makes things very black and white for the consumer. I do run across my fair share of fragile ego golfers. Had an older guy wanting to try the TS3 in a 9.5 stiff smoke shaft. After watching him hit it too low and getting 165-168 carry i built up a 10.5* TS1 with the air speeder senior flex. Immediately carrying it 198 with a better trajectory. He was basically offended and walked out, but I was like ok, I just got you 30 yards, can't please everybody lol. Most of the people I work with put their game in my hands and it is an absolute pleasure to help someone optimize their game regardless of their ability/handicap.

    I don't get that. I would play pink, L flex, Hello Kitty shafts if it got me 30 yards more distance. Too much ego in this game. I go with what the fitter recommends...after all, that is why I went to him in the first place. I just want him to optimize my performance. I don't care about anything else, e.g., shaft flex, etc.

    I agree with explaining the "why" to the customer. I had a fitting less than a month ago and me being analytical and a numbers guy I wanted to understand WHY I was getting recommend certain shafts and heads.

    Equipment prices are not cheap especially when it starts to be customized. So transparency is the best thing you can add to your fitting in my opinion. I'm not the best golfer as I just started but my hunger to get better has been there since I swung my first club less than a year ago. I don't have a problem spending the money knowing this "equipment" is going to help me reach my goal.

    It also takes both side to get the best optimal fitting possible. When I went in I had to throw out all my previous opinions out the door and go in with an open mind too. Everyone wants to swing the extra stiff shaft and hit blades but in reality that sometimes isn't the best option to maximize our potential and ability.

    Allow me to go back many years and relive my youth...ha

    At one point in my 20's I was a very good softball player that had power and could run like the wind. As I got in my 30's I saw that once what were home-runs, suddnely die at the base of the fence. I would also get tagged out sliding into 2nd on what used to be easy stand up doubles. I finally admitted my game had changed with age, and I adapted to it.

    I see so many golfers at our course who refuse to acknowledge they don't have the same game at 60 that they had at 40 or even 50. Still playing X Stiff or stiff shafts, when they attend demos at our club by all the major OEM's and the reps tell them they need lighter less stiff shafts...based on Trackman and ball flight, they claim the Trackman isn't accurate or the range balls suck...etc. It's always something other than them.

    LIke you most of the reps just say, I can lead you to water...but it's up to you do drink it or continue to be thirsty.

    Honesty is all I want from a fitter...

    I had a fitter tell me this year that with a 104 driver swing speed that regular or stiff shafts in my AP2's would be okay depending on what i liked. No real input by him...really left it up to me as to wht shaft I preferred. Not what I was expecting, to say the least.

    I will try and get to a Titleist Thursday early in the 2020 season for a complete fitting. I am not concerned about what type of shaft I play; I am after accuracy and distance like everybody.

    I am not concerned if the shafts being reccomended are exotic rather than "off the shelf" because improving my game is what I am after.

    I would expect the fitter to point out any swing flaws and stop the fitting to reccomend lessons before new clubs. I have only had that happen once in my life. I happened to be at a Golf Town in Saskatoon and the fitter there told me I was coming over the top and should correct that before changing clubs. Very good advice.
