Spend money on a fitting or spend it on playing more

As a 25+ handicap (for now) Would it be worth while to spend $350 at club champion on a full bag fitting, or spend $350 on tee times playing different courses, and buy clubs from the in house PGA tour Superstore fitting?

ABenton..I would take the fitted clubs from the PGA Superstore and invest in some lessons from a local PGA pro and then go play different courses to test yourself..Good Luck..

I would spend money either on lessons or playing more (range) before buying clubs.

I started playing golf this year too with some hand me down Irons and it took me about 8 months of non stop grinding and learning to be able to shoot in the low 90s consistently.

My next purchase now that I understand what in the golf swing I’m trying to do I’m going to buy new irons.

My swing has changed a lot over the last couple months just tinkering with changes.
  5. $350! Geez, where I work fittings are free with purchase or $50 without purchase. If any demo day events or titleist thursdays in your area those are free. Fittings are not rocket science, I could fit you in a full bag in 30 minutes using trackman. No more than an hour if looking for off-book exotic shafts. Save your money for golfing and find a better place to get a fitting.

Get fitted at a Titleist Thursday or at least with a trusted professional fitter. This will get the clubs to match your swing.

Then spend the money on the range & course. So I would say both but get fitted before trying anything on the course.

Club fitting, but I would go to a certified Titleist club fitter over Club Champion.

  9. I think that if you are committed to Titleist, then finding a Titleist fitter or Titleist Thursday event is the better option vs. Club Champion. I did both....

I did a full bag fitting at Club Champion in Spring 2016, and I thought it was a great experience, very educational, and you got to try any variation of club head and shaft. I have been a Titleist guy for about 20 years, but I wanted to try png, Taylor Made, etc. and having it all in one place in one session in a controlled environment, with an experienced fitter was worth the expense to me. With that said, the sky is the limit at Club Champion, literally, since many of the shaft options are very exotic and expensive. Plus, unless you are fitted with standard shaft options, you pay full freight for the clubs with stock shafts and then you pay for your fitted shafts and/or custom grips on top of that. I ended up spending about $4K on 13 clubs, but that was really over the top... I ended up with a full Titleist bag, and the end result was pretty significant for me, much better (higher) ball flight, much tighter dispersion, and about half a club more distance. All in all, I was satisfied.

At the end of this year, I wanted to upgrade to new irons, and was pretty set on staying with Titleist. We had a trip scheduled to La Jolla last month, so I decided to bite the bullet and go to Oceanside for a Titleist fitting at TPI. What the hell, I was in the area, why not.... It was truly an outstanding experience from beginning to end. Interestingly, I ended up keeping my driver from the Club Champion fitting (I had recently upgraded the head to a TS2 and kept the shaft from my original CC fitting, a handcrafted HZRDUS black), also I went from AP2 to T100, but interestingly I stayed with the same shaft (KBS C-Taper Lite). So all in all, the Club Champion fitting ended up pretty close to what I ended up with at TPI. The big difference at TPI was going back to fairway woods over hybrids, and also the wedges - different lofts and bounces. And with the TPI fitting, the shafts were all available direct from Titleist, which kept the cost down, and they were all delivered to my Club within two weeks, except for the wedges - we are waiting for the SM8s.

Besides the cost, the only negative I would say about Club Champion is that hitting inside on a mat is not the same as outdoors on grass. Especially with wedges - I would always do a wedge fitting outdoors in a proper short game area - the facility at TPI was beyond belief... Having done it both ways, I think that outdoors is the better option, so long as the weather and turf conditions are good.

Seems like Titleist Thursday is the best route! Ill throw the extra money at more balls and more rounds, as I all ready have a range membership and am currently taking lessons.

    Thanks for all the advice!
