What's up everyone? I'm curious what everyone's fitting experiences have been like with the transition club at the top of their bag. Going from fairway to long irons.

Usually when I go to fittings I'm told I should use a hybrid but they do not have demos to try out. So the recommendation is what should work well on paper for me. Usually it ends up being a 19 or 21* hybrid.

Since it's winter time and I can't golf at the moment, I start thinking about the bag and was curious why fitters tend not to recommend 7 woods and default to hybrids. Or have you all had fitters recommend them to you?

Have you all seen pros/cons between the two? Looking to discuss what your experiences are. I wish I could go get fit for these clubs, but my options here do not have demos of these clubs to compare.

    Appreciate the insight!

  2. For the most part it's personal preference. But typically it will come down to trajectory and ball speed. Fairway woods will hit the highest, followed by hybrids/driving irons/traditional irons. When i do fittings i check ball speed, if a guy is getting the same ball speed with the 4 iron as he gets with the 5 iron its time for a hybrid for the 4 iron equivalent - comparatively speaking a 7 wood will typically cover a 3/4 iron/ hybrid and a 5 wood typically covers what would be a 1/2 iron/hybrid. Every manufacturer may have slightly different results. Some players hit hybrids great, some dont and hit higher lofted fairway woods better. Nice thing about it there are tons of options and they are all easy to hit.

I've had better success with a 7W over a 21H, but it is a 915 and Titleist dropped the LH 7W after that. I'll check the TS2 hybrid and the U-510 as alternatives this year. The 915 may stay in the bag. The 7W/9W fairways are predominantly earmarked for slower swing golfers as they can be longer due to the longer comparable shaft. I already bought my current one used once I saw the 917s not carried. I'd hate to think I'd be like Henrik Stensen and his Diablo 3W, using it until it breaks.

If you are RH, the local Titleist rep should be able to schedule a 7W demo to your local pro shop. For LH, the alternatives are png and cally.

Appreciate the insight fellas (especially the fitting advise). Good to know that I can expect a higher trajectory with the fairway wood over the hybrid. I'm looking for a higher ball flight so I may end up going with the seven wood unless it's super windy that cay.
