  1. HELP!!! I have a 917d3 I bought new two years ago that I still love but recently had two inches hacked off the butt end because I’m 5”6 with short arms and it feels I have much more control. That being said I seem to be hitting a snap hook which I have never done and I feel it may be attributed to the swing weight. My local golf shop where I bought it as nice as they are don’t seem to be savvy on this sort of thing. What if anything can I do to get back close to d2-d4 I know 25g grip is an option and one is on the way but would an aftermarket shaft help. Side note just bought a set of 718 ap2’s and plan to shorten 1/2” to share with should this make enough difference to worry about?

  2. A clubfitter on a trackman should be able to diagnose this. My guess is with the club being shorter (43") which is like a 3wood length you may be catching it on the toe of the club. Toe hits will produce a hard hook, especially if your swing path is in to out. Even at 5'6" i probably would have recommended 44-44.5" for driver length.

As would agree with Dave and think you should look at extending 1" to gain back 6 swing weight points- for each increase of 9 grams in shaft weight you will add 1 swing weight point- I would suggest going with the extra length first and look to increasing head weight next- 2 grams = 1 swing weight point.
  4. Sounds like a plan I will probably just get a new shaft. Any recommendations on aftermarket shaft?
  5. Thanks for the input buts will probably just buy a new shaft instead of extending this one. Any recommendations on aftermarket shaft?

While standard length clubs fit me fine, I only have "good rotation for my age" (70) and I persist in using LH clubs. I've only occasionally made an empiric guess for what would work. Many retail stores don't even have LH clubs and definitely none in A or senior flex to try. I now save myself a lot of money by getting a fitting up front and buy once.

Titleist has an extensive matrix of shafts that have been tested for quality. You probably should start there in a fitting. A good pro shop can work with you, and even borrow fitting shafts from Titleist if nothing in the fitting cart is optimal.
