  1. Recently I bought my girlfriend a used set of 712 AP1s with NS Pro 970 shafts in ladies flex. The set did not have a W gap wedge and since the newer ap1s do not use 50° gap wedges anymore, I was looking into reshafting a head to match her set. My question is, what steel shaft could I get that has similar characteristics to the NS Pro 970 or Nippon NS Pro 950?

The shaft you have is a mid-high to high launch shaft. The NS Pro 880 AMC R-flex is reasonably close. We don't know your girlfriend, but women generally use graphite shafts similar to what senior men use. For those women with greater speed and skill, they would get fitted to R or S metal shafts, as would any golfer. So "L" flex metal shafts are uncommon anymore. Even though your set is L flex, the shaft weights are still in the 90 g range. HIgher launching shafts tend range up to the 65 g range. Hopefully she would find the heavier metal weights preferable to a lighter graphite shaft. Also she would know if a swing weight C9 or D2 is preferable. She will appreciate the gift if she enjoys the feel and control of the clubs.

Check the Titleist Custom Shaft guide located on this site. Also, I would check with Golfworks. They do reliable shaft comparisons.
