A lot has been written about the effects of changing the surefit setting, including the impact on whereas the club face opens up a hit or closes, depending on the change along the loft axis.

Before getting to the main question, it stands to reason that by moving along the Std horizontally, setting (A-2, B-2, A-1, B-1) the club face remains 0.5• open.

My question, and I have seen several attempts at trying to get to the bottom of this ( so perhaps a video from you would do wonders for all of us). Once I change the setting to, let’s say for sake of illustration to A-3 (ie more loft, more upright, and closed face - an extreme from the the Standard A-1), how should the club be positioned behind the ball at address? Should I hold the clubs just like I would had it stayed at A-1? Should there be some kind of adjustment to the face or grip? That is the question.

    Thanks.

  2. Keep everything the same and as natural as possible regardless of the setting - if you change from A1 to anything else then the "adjustment" has already been made - do not make any compensations/adjustments due to the setting. It defeats the purpose.

The settings assume you rest the driver on a flat surface for a normal shot to grip the club. Increasing lie will subtlety close the face. Since it is not increasing the loft, you can reshape the tendency w/o changing the launch window. Strong and weak grips will also impact the flight as much or more than the hosel. The settings are more to fine tuning a fitting than being a correction for a swing fix.
