Swing weighting irons at +1.5"

  1. I recently custom ordered T100 (5-9) and SM8 (46/50/54/60) @ 1.5" long and +2up from GolfGalaxy online.

There wasn't anywhere to specify a swing weight preference, so I'm assuming that Titleist will build these to default (D2?).

My question is, given the 9 SW point change from the added length, is there a standard way that they do this? e.g. Lighter club head, tungsten shaft inserts (grip end), etc.

Also assuming they factor grip weight/wrap(s) into the calculation.

P.S. Only asking out of curiosity. I would understand that they have a lighter head for these situations when a SW change of 3 points occurs when someone asks for +.5 length, but for these rare cases of +1.5", it's hard for me to see them having a head that light.

The heads vary by weight due to manufacturing limitations. So Titleist sorts them by weight range into different bins. As part or the assembly the weights are selected and then before final assembly the swing weight is checked and hot melt may be added at that point.
If they can’t make it to D2, they can confirm with your dealer on options. Some large chains do centralized orders, so not sure if the message gets back to the store level.

Not knowing your intended swing weight, Titleist will not make any assumption as to swing weight so unless it is specified they will not make any adjustments for swing weight- they have confirmed this several times on this forum. Normally differences in head weight are due to manufacture tolerances- I would doubt Titleist would have their head manufactured to different target weights. If you e-mail customer service they can confirm these points.

I wouldn't deal with a supplier who cannot include your desired swing weight- if it is specified Titleist will advise if they cannot meet it.
  4. Thanks for the reply but that wasn't my question. I'm fine with the clubs being at standard swing weight. My question was, giving how I'm getting them built 1.5 inches long, what are their most common methods to get the club back down to D2 range.

Since you have already ordered them without any specified swing weight specified they will come back well over D2- the only options at this point is to change to heavier grips (5 grams = 1 swing weight point), change to lighter shafts (9 grams = 1 swing weight point) and/or you could add a counterweight to the butt end- again 5 grams is equal to one swing weight point.
