Experience with Club Fitting

  1. I was fit for irons and wedges at the National Fitting Centre in March of this year. I received most of the clubs last week at the end of June (I am still waiting on the PW and gap wedge!). It was quite the delay, although I understood given the pandemic, supply shortages, etc.

However, when I received the first batch of clubs I was sent the wrong grips. I ordered (and paid for) Golf Pride MCC grips, and was sent Tour Velvet grips. In addition, the grips I received were not put onto the shafts. So I have the wrong grips (a cheaper grip than what I paid for), and now I have to waste time and money on bringing the grips somewhere to get them put onto the shafts.

I spent a lot of money on these clubs and am just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience? Do Titleist's custom clubs come without the grips put on? If this was a mistake on Titleist's end, I feel like I should be compensated for this in some manner. I have sent several emails to the fitting team on this but have not received any reply as of yet.

    Thanks in advance.

Please clarify your location as I believe you are located in the UK? Different assembly than in the USA. I am pretty sure the UK sets are assembled in St. Ives therefore questions need to be directed to them or your local contact that coordinated your order. I know that grip availability is an issue industry-wide and some people here in the USA have been contacted about using a different grip to speed up completion of their order. Sounds like someone in St. Ives made that decision or was told by someone to go that route. You are more likely to get the response you desire by directing your post specifically to the UK/Ireland link or adding your location to your profile. Even better to call the National Fitting Centre you used and talk to someone there. Hope you get your questions answered and get your new sticks comfortably working on the golf course as soon as possible. Cheers.
  3. Thank you for the response, Dale, I appreciate it. I am located in Canada near Toronto.
  4. In some cases if the grip is the only reason for the backorder, the facility that you purchased them from may opt to have them shipped gripless if they have the grip you selected in stock and then just grip them themselves once the clubs arrive. Sounds like they shipped them directly to you with the stock grip loose in box, if the facility is nearby they should take care of this either from their grip inventory or a refund.
  5. Thank you for the reply, Dave. I was just told that they were shipped grip-less so that I could have the option to bring them to a retailer to exchange them for the grips of my choice (and I would have to pay the difference to upgrade from stock grips to the grips of my choice). And then Titleist would refund me for the grips I purchased. In any case that doesn't change the fact that I'll have to pay to get the grips put on the clubs. I think the correct approach would have been for Titleist to send the stock grips on the shaft, with the backordered grips I purchased to follow as back-up grips. I have asked Titleist to ship me the backordered grips I purchased when they are in stock in any event.

    Thanks again.
