I was scheduled for a Titleist Club Fitting on Monday, Feb 14th at our club. This morning, the golf shop called to inform me that there would be a $50.00 fitting fee charged. At the time when I scheduled the appointment, there was no mention of a fitting fee. Also, there was no fee charged when I attended the previous Titleist Fitting Days at the club in December and January. I was looking forward to checking out some SM9's and TSi Fairways and a Hybrid, but under the circumstances, I decided to cancel my appointment. It just sticks in my craw that this got sprung on me 4 days before the appointment. I called Titleist earlier about this, but could not get an explanation. Has anyone else run into this situation? Just wondering.

    Hey sir,
I’m a Titleist club fitter and wanted to give some possible feedback on your situation. Not knowing if your club is private or public I can maybe help clarify why there was a charge. First and foremost check with your pro as to why there was a charge as he should be fully aware why it happened. Titleist has started a program called, Fitter on Call, which charges the account a $250 fee during certain situations. The situations can include the following.
    1) If a normal Titleist fitting event is set to private, meaning it is promoted within, then we have a minimum number of appointments(4) that must be booked prior to the event. If the club can’t fill these appointments then prior to the event(usually 48-72 hrs prior then the event turns into a Titleist fitter on call event in which the $250 charge goes to the account to cover us coming out. I’m guessing the pro split that charge up between the members to cover the $250 charge.
    2) If the event is open to the public, meaning Titleist promotes the event on our website, the same situation happens with the fitter on call charge when the minimum 4 booked appointments isn’t met.
I hope this helps in maybe clarifying the charge that you were told about prior to your appointment. Please let me know if you have any more questions as I’m here to help.

There were 5 appointments all booked in advance at no fee. Last week we were informed that there would be a $50.00 per appointment fee, which the club called a fitting fee. Upon hearing this after the fact, myself and the other 4 people cancelled our appointments. Subsequently, the club tried in vain to fill the now cancelled appointments and this morning, the fitter was informed that there were no booked appointments and the event was cancelled. We are the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, FL and have all the major manufactures coming here for demo/fitting days and none charge a fee. Also, the previous Titleist Fitting Days were free of charge.

There are some PGA professionals on these forums besides the rest of us rabid fans. But this isn’t an area to communicate to the Titleist officials. The contract fitter explained the situation but can’t do much to help you from Texas.

It does sound like it was both poorly planned and communicated. You might do better to find the Titleist rep for your home course. If for no other reason to remind that person that other OEMs have a more favorable policy at that course. That a fee was introduced at the last minute is not a good PR move. Whether at your home club or another date at a nearby club, you might get some satisfaction for a fitting.
