    What direction have you gone if you've tried anything in the post-NXT world?  I have a few NXT balls in the bag that were a door prize, so I didn't make a decision to buy them.  But they seem to find the fairway and greens on me better than the E5s that cost me money.  There is a discontinued and highly discounted 3 piece ball that is still in good supply from another vendor but before I stock up, I'm curious what others have found.  The Tour-S seems to be getting a premium for being a 2 piece ball.

    I heard one legend that the NXT is closest to the NXT Tour-S.  Adding Tour (and yellow) makes it easier to market using Tour in the name.  Others here have mentioned that the Tour is not as soft as the previous Tour.  Hopefully, those that have had to switch will supply feedback for the rest.

    I switched to another 2 piece also with ionomer cover, has a little more spin than NXT, so with clubs like 15*f and 17*h it is longer but in general it is a little shorter than NXT. It reacts with my short game not quite as a good as NXT but good enough.

    I found a new NXT Tour, and yesterday I tested it against NXT, using only irons I played 9 in the cold rain and mud when nobody else was on the course. The NXT Tour was consistently 5y shorter than NXT with 4i off the tee. Hitting in to the green it stopped well short of NXT, and on one green I landed into the bottom of the slope, it bounced up near the top and came back down faster than I thought it should, and it came well back past the pitch mark. I don't think gravity on this slope and wet green would move the ball like that, so there must have been some pretty high 9i spin.

    Don - I feel your pain, and have made this complaint since the new balls for 2012 were introduced on these forums. I played the NXT Tour - before the changes - and really liked it. The New NXT Tour is way too firm and the NXT Tour S is too spinny. Titleist, unfortunately, couldn't leave well enough alone and no matter how many dogs of us barked up the same tree, they followed th Pro V1 path and limited us to two distinctly different balls that were nothing like the original and favored ball of the non - Pro V users. I went the opposite direction (somewhat in spite and but moreso because the ball is just plain good for the $) and went DT SoLo. It beats the Gamer and the E6/E5 for distance and feel, is relatively inexpensive and performs as well or better than the plain old NXT. I honestly don't want to harp on knocking Titleist - a brand decision is a a brand thing and we live with it. They did it with the Eclipse, the DT,etc. - and we adapt. Try the Dt SoLo.... you may just like it.

    Thanks for the thoughtful answers. It does confirm that there is no exact substitute, and I'll have to decide to try a little more spin or a little more straight (more like try both and decide).  I'll try these 2 because I do like following an optic ball that will leave Velocity to try only if I still feel like Goldilocks looking for just right.

    I've tried the Velocity, the DT Solo, and the NXT tour s in the past week. All of them are good balls, but iron shots don't feel the same. Personally I just bought a bunch of used NXT's, They seem to be in very good shape and play like the new one's did. I bought 50 balls for around $65 so it was a deal. Some have writing on them and some have logos, but for around a dollar a ball I'll take it. As far as the new balls, the tour s is probably the closest, but for the increase in price I'll be using the DT Solo if it's necessary.
