Changing balls

  1. I have been using Pro V1s for years.  I love the ball.  I am 66 and just had neck surgery where many muscles were cut.   I have lost about two clubs.  Due to the weakness and just getting older my swing speed has slowed down to around 60.   I was considering changing to the Velocity ball just to gain the distance.   I used to hit a PW 115 to 125 yds.  Now I can only get 80 to85 yds out of it.   Will the Velocity give me at least another 10 to 15 yds on the PW?

My concern due to the low spin of the Velocity is that I may not be able to stop a 6 or 7 iron on the green.   With the pro VI I can stop those clubs with no problem within a few feet of landing.  I dont and have never really backed up the ball.

Can you shed any light on this for me and will I be loosing a lot by making the change.  Also, one of my biggest problems since the surgery is that I cannot get a 10 to 15 yrd differential between irons.   I am getting around 7 yards difference.    I was hoping that the Velocity would at least change that so I would not have to drop down two clubs to hit a shot for the difference of 12 yards.

Thanks in advance for your help and thoughts.

    Hi Ron,

First off, here's to a full and speedy recovery.

In terms of testing out some different models and looking for some added distance, I would recommend looking at Pro V1x, NXT Tour and Velocity. I've included a quick performance comparison chart to help illustrate the benefits of each model.

Keep in mind, driver distances between Titleist golf balls are within 4-5 yards of each other, regardless of swing speed - so I'm not sure you're going to see a 10 to 15 yard gain with your wedge. However, by testing the different models, you'll be able to determine which model also produces the right amount of short game/scoring spin that helps you play the shots you're accustomed to playing.

Hope this helps get you started in the right direction.

    Cheers,

    Mike
