As a fitter, and golfer, I have found it is best to play with your ball of choice, no matter what the conditions are. If you change your golf ball, you change every shot in the bag. Lower compression golf balls will perform differently from high compression balls in cold weather, just like they do in warm weather. 

In summation, I would stick with the Pro V1x in all conditions.

Bubba has the best reply, but I have found if you want to save a few bucks during the winter  the Nxt Tour in my opinion  will be the closet thing to the Pro V1X.  My experience the distance  is almost the same and the spin pretty decent around greens and into the greens.

Agree with Bubba.  Keeping the balls warm may help - at least for the drive.

If I'm wearing enough layers to interfere with my swing, then it really doesn't matter which ball I use.  I'm only out there to be outside, and not likely to being going for a new low score.  ....Unless the mishits are bouncing off of the water hazards

I agree with Bubba...I have spent a lot of time fitting my ball to my clubs at Oceanside TPI and over the years I cannot notice a signficant problem using the ball of my choice during cold weather.  I do make the decision to keep the balls at room temperature as often as possible all year long though before bringing them out in various temperatures both high and low.

When i play in the winter in the morning when it is cold I usually go to the DT or NXT. Also use a hand warmer in my pocket and use 2 balls rotating one from my warm pocket every other hole

When I've decided to brave the cold in the past, I've always used hand warmers while carrying/rotating balls between holes.  Would love to hear the official stance on whether it may be outside the rules to do so.  Rotating balls and keeping them warm while not in play would not change the original characteristics of the ball.  I could be wrong though.

Jeff, just my opinion, but I would think unless your playing in a competitive tournament I don't see why it would hurt anything to keep a hand warmer in your pocket ( I carry a hand warmer a lot since I don't wear a golf glove) and keep an extra ball in that pocket also. With some of the crazy rules in golf there's probably a rule against it somewhere. Usually, when the weather is cold, I'll put a sleeve of balls on the floor of my truck where the heater will blow on it while I'm on the way to the course, and then put one in my pocket with a hand warmer, and switch balls on every hole. As long as your playing partners don't mine, and they can do the same, I don't think it hurts a thing. I haven't really thought about it being illegal (of course my playing partners, and I don't usually go by all rules 100% of the time. We don't even know what all of them are.) so that is a very good question you have about the legality of a hand warmer, so I'd like to hear from someone that knows all the rules, and have them weigh in, and let us know. Can someone answer this question if a hand warmer is legal?

I keep my ProV1X's inside during the winter.  I also keep an extra ball in my pocket to keep it warm.  I won't change it out though until the old ball decides it doesn't want to stay with me any more and goes into hiding, or it gets unfit for play.

Not sure that this makes that much difference in my game, but it does help me psychologically.

Last year I thought I would try the Velocity ball in the winter to see if I would pick up some distance.  Not.  Point being, I play the Prov1 the year round.  My clubs do seem to like any other ball.  Now as to the legality of a hand warmer in your pocket with your golf ball.  I do not think that the packs generate enough heat to the effect the performance of a golf ball.  Think it would be like putting it in a pair of mitt gloves out of the elements.  Just one opinion.

A.Yes. Use of a ball that has been purposely warmed during a stipulated round with an artificial device constitutes a breach of Rule 14-3. However, it would not be a breach of Rule 14-3 to use a ball that was artificially warmed prior to the stipulated round.

I switch to NXT soft in the cold. The pro V feels harder and I lose feel on touch shots and with the driver. I rotate balls in my pocket like others. 

I played 3 weeks ago when it was 75 out and no wind.. My distances were spot on and shot 2 over.. During that round I felt something pull in my chest so I took 3 weeks off. Played yesterday and it was on 40 when I teed off and got up to 51 when I was done. Just clubbed up on a few irons and knew that I lost a few off the tee.. Still shot 2 over.. So I guess what I'm saying is stay with the Prov-1x and know what the ball will do with every club including the putter,, everyone always forgets that one!!

My other feedback here which I think hits part of what you see in the others suggesting hitting the NXT is that greens are softer (till they freeze) now and so I have to hit the ball past the hole, hit it smoother or switch to a lower spin ball because I was pulling all my shots back 15'. 

When I was a kid playing those awesome 100 compression balata balls in the summer, I would play 90s in the winter but that was all that changed.  The rest of the ball was identifcal.  When you change balls now you affect all kinds of characteristics.  Is it windier in the winter, just cooler (az), rainy (pnw), frozen tundra? Is there somethign you have seen in the past characteristic wise you notice as a change other than some distance loss in the Winter you are trying to correct?  IE don't just blindly change like the old days, get analytic. 

Bubba knows best. I usually stay with my Pro V1 or V1x during the warmer months. In the winter we don't get as much cold as we do wet. I usually switch to the NXT tour in those situations. That saves some money and with wetter greens as the equalizer, I'd say the ball performance is pretty close to the same. I can't work the NXT as well, but for the money the performance is pretty good. IMO. 

Hey Mike, just keep another ball in Your pocket and rotate every hole. This will help keep it semi-warn.
