I actually wax mine at least once a year. However, you want to be careful to not get in cracks where you cant take a soft brush(toothbrush, etc and get it out... I use Meguiars NXT wax........Ill often take mothers mag/aluminum polish to the bottom of them for shine (depending on the finish of your clubs)..... I have found that the Mothers polish works wonders for my Scotty Cameron Pro Platinum, you can see the black stuff come off the bottom.

I stay away from the grooves though i just wax/polish the bottom/back/etc.... They are easier to wipe off/clean after each shot as well.

Per Scotty Cameron's recommendation, baby oil on a soft clean cloth helps preserve the finish on Pro Platinum putters. I use it on my Mil-Spec after every round. I use Simonize paste wax on my 909 D2, is Meguiars better?

Folks, I'm sorry to sound ignorant, but I've never heard of this. Is this something you do because of where you live? I'm in Miami, Florida and don't know anyone who waxes their clubs, but then I don't know anything.

What's the purpose and how often would you do it considering how the sole would certainly get the polish worn off when the clubs took a divot.

I wash my clobs after I play, with toothbrush and hand washing liquid soap. I don't suppose it would hurt to polish the crowns of my woods, but what's the polish do for the putter and irons?

    Inquiring minds want to know...

    Thanks,

    Dennis

I don't wax my irons, but I do wax the crown and sole of my driver and fairway metal. I do it to keep the finish clean and to make it easy to wipe off water marks. I guess if you want to get technical, it could decrease wind drag. Mainly for me it keeps the clubs clean and easier to clean. As far as the putter, the Pro-Platinum finish on a Scotty Cameron will start to wear or even get pitted if you don't clean after a while. Scotty Cameron has an oil cloth you can buy, but baby oil on a clean soft cloth works just as well. My Mil-Spec still looks new after 3 years, barring some of the paint fill wearing off on the sole. I have found that a set of Club Glove iron covers keeps my irons in good shape, no signs of bag chatter.

Sorry, but I just don't see the point. The only club that should need looking after might be a Cameron putter with the Pro Platinum finish. It would be more benificial to your game to make sure that the clubfaces are always clean.

I, too, just got a set of ap2's.  To protect the investment, I got the glove club iron covers which may prove to be a nuisance but, hey, I don't get a new set every year like the pros!  I heard Rejex is an excellent polish to use on your car's finish.  It's used to protect airplanes' finish(non-commercial).  Very durable.  Probably the ticket for irons as well....why not?

I have been waxing my clubs for the past 15 years (all sets along the way).  It helps keep them clean and makes them more resistant to rust, especially if you use club covers.  If water gets into the covers and you don't take the covers off and let them dry before putting them on your clubs, the wax helps keep them from rusting.  I've had that trouble with putters and wedges especially as they wear down to bare metal.  Drivers aren't as big of an issue but the wax helps keep them clean.

This is really interesting. Can you imagine with all the undercut cavities on newer clubs, how some of those high priced irons are going to be rusting out in a few years? I know they are mostly stainless steel, but I also know stainless isn't totally impervious to rust and corrosion if someone doesn't take good care of their clubs.

After having tried a set of the Taylormade TP irons, hating them and going back to my old 690.CB irons, (before I got my AP2's), one of the things that just irritated the life out of me was how to clean out that undercut cavity.

But then, I'm pretty anal about cleaning my clubs, so that's why I like being able to totally wipe off my Titleists.
