During the test last fall of the new Prov1x I was confused. More spin and Higher ball flight then what I was used to from my ProV1x. I had a hard time filling out my survey because the ball acted different. Now I think I know why, this years ProV1x is last years ProV1. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

  2. I believe you're wrong on this one. I can't imagine the V1 from last year would be this years V1X. That would have the opposite effect... the V1X is going to be the higher spinning ball. The V1 will have a lower compression, slightly less spin, and most likely feel a little softer.

The 2017x is the same as the 2015x, with exception to the dimple design, according to Titleist.
I received a sleeve of the V1x test ball and noticed that it flew slightly higher and seemed a little shorter off my irons. Not all the X test balls are the same, I read Titleist send out 6 different designs for player feedback, then makes a selection on which direction to go.
We probably received the design that didn't make the cut!
  4. I had the exact same experience with my test balls last fall. I had the red numbers, so I assumed X, but it really didn't perform at all like the current (at the time) X that i was using. Had me worried! I'm going to be testing the V and the X soon, maybe this year I will need to make the switch to the Pro V.
Anyone have V vs. X comparisons for 2017? I'm hearing a lot of conflicting reviews... probably just best to test myself!

I just finished two rounds with each sleeve. If I am to believe the comparison page, I hit the Pro V lower and longer of the tee. My irons with the Pro V were more penetrating but stopped on the greens the same as the Pro V1X. The Pro V1X tended to balloon somewhat which is not great in Oklahoma. Both balls were great on and around the greens. I am amazed that the Pro V is my ball of choice!?
  6. Recently got some logo'd X's from the shop at my course and gave them a real workout. They are (I think) slightly different from the sleeve of test balls I got in the fall. These ones - the current '17 design - are more what I expected. They do fly high but not crazy high and I'm a high ball hitter anyway so that doesn't bother me. What I really noticed was that they seem a bit more stable in the 15-20 mph FL wind. I bought a sleeve of V1s and one quiet day on the course I hit one of each (V1 and X) on every shot. Seems to me that the V1 is slightly softer, and flies slightly shorter on comparably hit shots. Given slightly soft conditions the X performed better distance wise, as the roll out that you would expect from the V1 didn't happen. I also like to flag hunt around the green and the X gave me all the spin I needed while stopping quickly on pitches. Great feel on chips and off my old Scotty Newport 2. I've been an X player for a while and see no reason to change

Now I'm more confused. After reading all the reviews it seemed like I was in for a switch to the new ProV1 (current 1x player) but Anthony's review has confused me.

I had some text Pro V1 and Pro V1x sent to me thank to this discussion forum from Titleist.

I have noticed that the V1 spins less with driver than V1x which is not the "usual" character of the ball. It's still flies lower and spin is the same on wedge shots. I feel the V1 and V1x finish on the same distance because of spin and angle of flight/descent.

I have been a Pro V1x player but V1 might be in the cards for this season.
