I think the low spin rate creates a better roll out on firm fairways. The ball doesn't peak late in the carry which creates a less steep decent. This equates to longer roll outs. If you play wet, soft fairways, you might keep getting better results on a higher launch. For me, my course is usually dry and firm so lower shots seem to work for me.

The other component that will effect distance is spin. The AVX spins less than the ProV1 which is where the lower launch distance comes from.

I would also like to add the question of how it bites on the greens? Low spin = less bite? The added distance would be nice, but not at the expense of losing stopping control on iron shots into the greens.

The difference in launch is not as dramatic as what can be achieved with shafts. A more penetrating flight can achieve distance through a lower landing angle with more roll. Dimple structure comes into play for hang time as well. The ball core can also come into play. So there are multiple effects other than just launch angle. I only see a difference with mid-irons, no noticeable difference with driver. I used the X for the higher launch for distance, but with the 2017 V and now with the AVX, there is magic that defies the old logic. If you're happy with either Pro-V, you wouldn't need to change. I've been waiting for an amber Pro-V since I had a detached retina. As it turns out, I'm happy with the performance of the AVX and the amber helps me track. With the 2017 release and the AVX, you may want to make sure your current ball meets your game the best.

As far as I get it the AVX launches lower and spins lower, what would result in more roll of the driver and due to lower spin more distance.

Hi. I’m not sure that I could get to an answer for you. I’m no expert, but I’m one of the guys who have tested and continue to play the AVX ball. I compared it with the Pro V1 that I have played for many years.

I just turned 61, and I’m carefully thinking through the steps I need to do in order to keep up from my diminishing distance. (ouch! that hurts to say but it is what it is) - slowly but surely it’s happening.

Anyway, the lower trajectory I noticed with the AVX ball isn’t a drastic change from the V1, although it is noticeably lower, longer and softer. That’s really all I could tell you in a nutshell- I have no technical answer about higher/longer and maybe it’s just me, I try not to over think it- the V1 is a totally different ball than the AVX, and instead I just take it for what it is and what it does then use it to my advantage.

That may not be an answer you want to hear but let me share with you that I have plans to change irons. I’m thinking of going with the AP3, which is a much stronger lofted club than the CB I currently love and play. The CB plays high in general, and from what I hear about the AP3, it also plays high/ and long. So when paired together, the AP3 and the AVX, I should gain more distance and also maintain a high trajectory that I’m used to.

If I’m way off about my thoughts, I hope someone in staff would chime in and give light, and I don’t mind being corrected- I would love to hear some input actually.

It’s been real busy at the office and it’s kept me from Titleist Thursday opportunities. One of my deepest concern is the lie angle. My swing is unconventional and it puts me to at least 3 degree up. With the forged CB I now have, it was easy to adjust, but with the AP3 cast iron, I understand that I can only order it up to 2 degrees up. I guess I’m asking if the AP3 can be ordered 3 degrees up with an exemption?

Ive played two rounds with the AVX and as much as I tried to like it I just can’t. Distance off the tee and irons is fine but not enough to give up spin around the greens. I’m sure it is a good golf ball for some but not for me. I’m a Titleist loyalist through the bag but I will not be using the AVX.
