Reading Jorgensen's Book on 'Physics of Golf'.' He states (as of 1999) 'Tour Pros' were still having 'Balata covered' wound balls made.

I remember when Balata 90's were the best. They would spin so hard, but one skip off a path, rock, or tree and the spin was all wrong. You could also make them "smile" if you caught it a little thin.
When the Professional 90 came out I was immediately in love. I don't know when that was, but I couldn't see Touring Pros ordering up Balatas when you could play the Professional...
Did Jorgensen say why they preferred the Balata?

I worked at TPC Jasna Polana in Princeton, NJ until 2001. The Instinet Classic was held there that year (and 2 years prior). During that event, I had several Senior Pros request the balata balls for practice sessions. They loved them!
