I say whatever works use it.

Crazy as it may sound, I can't get on my haunches due to bad knees. I found I couldn't effectively line up the line on my ball effectively when I just bent over it, so I don't use any line up aid. What I try to do is place the ball in a position where I see no logo or anything looking down on it.

If it works for you keep doing it.
I put a small thin blue line though the pro v on the ball and line that up with the hole as my guide

Whatever it takes to get yourself to believe you can putt! Thats the way i look at it, do whatever it takes! Good luck out there

I'm just the opposite...I like to look down and see a clean ball...no logo & number, no side stamp and no line.

It definitely helps for me. I usually draw a line and have also drawn a flat 90 degree line as well (creating a T) to help align my intended path.

Prefer to draw a line though, and do not like lines placed on the ball for me.

Personally, I am not a fan of an alignment aid of any sort on the ball. I have found when I have tried using one, that I spend too much effort focusing on the alignment, and consequently, I often forget about the speed. Also, trying to get the ball aligned perfectly is not always easy. You work for ten seconds adjusting the ball slightly until you think you have it lined up perfectly, then you stand over the ball and half the time realize it is way off and have to go back and adjust further. After enough adjusting, you lose confidence because it looks good in one position, but not when you address it. Or vice versa. That makes me question my alignment and then I can't commit. Lack of commitment usual results in lack of a good result.

I am a much better feel putter. Most of the time, I see the line and putt the line with good pace, mostly due to my subconscious, rather than conscious effort. Like throwing a ball to someone. I don't think, I just throw. My internal mind just tells me how hard and in what direction to throw it to get it to the receiver. When I try to make things too mechanical, I am just not good. But, that's me. You, of course, may be different. I know many who rely on alignment aids to putt the ball on line. And some do it well, some not-so-well.

During practice, I have used a red line to help confirm I am striking the ball squarely and sending it off perfectly end over end (without the line wobbling).

I like a bare clean ball myself, also. I use the flag as a target and works well for me. I always plum bob with my putter for alignment purposes. Guess we all have different things that work for us.

I think it definitely helps. I’ve also noticed that I putt better with wline on my ball than when there’s not a line

When I take the time to lineup the line I've found I then just focus too much on that marking and forget to hit the putt!

Former PGA Tour player, Senior Tour Player, and now short game/putting guru Dave Stockton doesn't like or recommend the putting alignment line. He believes you should focus on other. But I say like you guys, whatever works.

I've tried it and it doesn't work for me. What does work is picking out a spot a few inches ahead of the ball on my line and lining up on that, trying to roll the ball over it. YMMV.

I am more of a ‘feel’ putter. I would focus so hard on the line, I forget about speed. No line for me
