i am looking to find a more durable ball. it seems that every "high end" ball that i play on the first full shot with a mid to low iron the ball scuffs. i have been going to lower end balls that are firmer to try to make my ball last more than 3 holes. I have been playing the NXT and seem to get it to spin just enough from the fairways but i would like more feel on and around the green. can anyone recommend me a ball that will last, that also has some feel around the greens. thanks

That is the price you have to pay for a quality ball these days, i hate to say it.  I have found a ball that doesn't scuff as quickly though, the Srixon Z-Star, not as good of a ball as the Pro-V1 or X's but doesn't scuff as quickly.  To me the balls don't fly or spin as much.

Pinnacle Gold has served me well as an alternate ball. Good price also.   DT SoLo suprised me with feel around the greens.  i play the NXT Tour almost always though.

Even moving to an NXT Tour will still give you some feel and response around the green much more than the regular NXT.  The NXT Tour has a softer cover and core than the NXT, and is sometimes called the poor mans Pro V1......

The scuffing of Pro V1's is mostly due to your steep swing and attack angle, once your attack angle shallows out, then you will see less scuffing.  Also, I did receive some of the new test balls, and I hit the cart path a couple times, along with being a steep attacker of the ball, and they seemed to hold up better than the current ones.  Give the new ones a try when they hit the market.

Most of the time, with the Pro V1's and Pro V1x's the scuff you see is purely an aesthetic inconvenience. The scuff is simply the paint being scraped off of the golf ball. If the ball has not lost its roundness its performance is not compromised much, if any at all. Obviously, looking down and seeing a scuff is a deterrent to most people but Titleist. The urethane elastomer covers used in the Pro V1 family is thin, that thinness adds to performance and spin. The NXT family has thicker, non-urethane elastomer covers, which are still high performing but are lower spinning than the Pro V1 family. Obviously a thinner cover is easier to scratch than a thicker one. Hope that helps, dissolve some of your concerns about the covers/balls and their performance.

The new Pro Vs are way more durable.  They don't scuff easily, they actually hold up if they take a thunk off a yardage stone or a cart path.  Just wait till they come out- Problem solved!

    Thanks John

That explains it a bit more.  I know when i've played the ProVs, I see a bit more white on my driver and long irons.   As for the mobile fitting team, is there a schedule for 2010-11 in the NY NJ area that we should know about?  Would like to attend.

the biggest thing i found this year was switching to a C-C groove sand wedge i was cutting up way less golf balls

Not sure it has a lot to do with the golf ball its more so the grooves in the wedges (Pre 2010)
