I use pro v1x balls. I have had to buy over 200 balls this year because of my vokey wedges scuffing the ball. Granted this scuff comes from a clean shot and i would never complain of the stopping power, but the damage to the balls is becoming pricey....does anyone else have this problem?

Have had the same problem, while testing the new ProV1x I dropped a new one to hit with my 8 iron and had the scuff marks after one hit of the ball.

I've been useing the pro v1x for several years now and one of the reasons i use the ball is becouse of its durabilaty.I can get two sometimes three rounds out of one ball.Im a scratch player and play once or twice a week and only go through about 4 or 5 dozen a year.I dont plan on changing any time soon

I guess it depends on your angle of attack. Mine is fairly steep and I will shread the cover just about every time. Not bad enough to take it out of play but it would have to be affected in some way. It is mainly when I use my sand and lob wedges.

Yes, I have it worse with the new ProV1x.  I am with you that it's starting to get me to consider changing brands due to cost.  Blaming it on a 'step angle of attack' isn't the right answer.  I would hope someone from Titleist contacts us to discuss the problem.  It is a problem.  I can assure you that the balls of 2 to 3 years ago (pre-lawsuit) didn't cut like this.

    Hi guys,

The cover of the Pro V1 and Pro V1x features Urethane, a soft material that compresses against the club face on impact.  Urethane is a material that transmits a softer sensation to the hands and provide more spin than Surlyn-covered golf ball models. The Pro V1 and Pro V1x are designed primarily to maximize spin and feel for higher overall performance.

New irons and wedges will all have a tendency to shear the golf ball, for some people, because the grooves are new and sharper. Also, the shear affect does vary from player to player and the characteristics of a player's swing in combination with the design of their higher lofted clubs can also have an impact on abrasions due to iron shots.

As for angle of attack, that does play a role along with a number of other factors. If you tend to be steeper on your attack, you may see more shearing then if you were more shallow.

We really appreciate the feedback and hope this helps provide a little more insight. Thanks.

I get all the stopping power I need from ProV1, I don't have a problem with shredding the cover, I also use v groove wedge.

I know it doesn't make any difference to the pros, but are they saying anything about the covers shredding?
