I have played rounds with both golf balls, and was wondering what the TT members thought about their experiences with each ball? Have you noticed and advantage or disadvantage between the two?

Depending on what swing I have that day :) .  I use to play just ProV1's but one day tried out the ProV1x's and liked them too.  I ended shooting my best round ever with a ProV1x this summer.  I do notice when I have a serious draw action going the ProV1x helps me out on my drives.  The ball still stops on the green and can back it up a little with my wedge shoots.  I'm waiting for the new balls to come out so I can buy some of the new ProV1x's.

I am not a long hitter, and I find the Pro V1 goes a little further, but not as soft around the greens. If it is warm and dry, and distance is a non-factor for play, I like the Pro V1x a little more, as I find I can put more spin on it. Both balls in my opinion behave the same when putting.

From what I have heard, Pro V1x's are less forgiving and are designed for players who can put an exact amount of spin on the ball and get it in a very precise location. Pro V1's are a little more for amateurs.

    Hi guys,

I caught up with our golf ball fitting experts and wanted to provide some additional insight here.  The first thing to remember is that finding the best golf ball for your game is really your best bet.

Our fitting methodology focuses on educating golfers and recommending a Titleist golf ball that will help them shoot lower scores by determining the highest performing ball for a golfer’s total game, not on just one shot.

We always stress the importance of making the final selection based on performance and results following an on-course evaluation. Here's a link to our golf ball fitting section which has a lot of great content that will help you get started with the selection process:  http://www.titleist.com/golf-ball-fitting/

As for looking at the Pro V1 and Pro V1x side-by-side, here is a little more info from John Fizer, one of our expert fitters on the mobile golf ball fitting vans...

The game changing difference is spin.

Pro V1 - Softer feel. Spins high with everything, every shot, every club

Pro V1x - Firmer feel. Spins high around the green (almost identical to Pro V1), spins lower with longer shots. This low spin with the longer shots is very attractive to high spin, high speed players. This lower spin will make mis-hits and errant shots more manageable than with a higher spinning golf ball like Pro V1.

The fact that PGA Tour players and better players use Pro V1x is due to its performance, not due to its ability give the better player something "extra". All players can benefit from Pro V1x, in fact any player who is looking for a decreased shot dispersion with longer shots and high spin around the greens should absolutely give Pro V1x a try!

Also, Pro V1 and the Pro V1x are both used widely on the worldwide tours, competitive amateur events, and with recreational golfers all around the world.  Players of all levels like the performance that Titleist golf balls give on every shot.  Tour players may take weeks to find the best golf ball for their game and it is always about lowering their scores.

In the end, there is no single reason to choose a golf ball and there is no quantitative value placed on why someone should play it.  It all comes down to performance and preference.  Some players like the spin from both the Pro V1 and Pro V1x around the green but when you are comparing 145 yard shots to a target, they may like one ball over the other.  The best way to find out is to compare them side by side on the golf course for the final selection

I hope this helps provide some more insight and clarity.

  8. I'd like to point out that a lot of Tour players play with the Pro V1: Mr. Stricker, Mr. Clark, Mr. Ogilvy, Mr. Scott, Mr. Van Pelt, Mr. Choi, Mr. Hoffman...I could probably fill an entire page full of names. It's obvious that the Pro V1x is a popular one, but the current golf ball market is the way that it is now because of the Pro V1. I remember the very first day that they were available for purchase. I've never, EVER, even considered playing with another ball. It would be a sin in my book.

It doesn't matter if you're a 10 handicap, or, a Tour pro, you should always go through a ball fitting. That way, you'll find the exact ball that's best for YOUR game.

the Dual core of the X give it that lower spin of the driver and long iron face. the Dimple patters are the major diffrence witch is what helps with draw fade affects you have on arrent shots. yes the 392 of the pro V grips alittle more on long iron shots and provides more workability for slower swings. to keep more control over the X for high swings the reduced it to a 332 patern. this helps in long drives also to reduce spin on drivers shots for high power swingers. but couse of the shell material being the same thickness and softness (I.E. same material) they perform the same on wedges.

    Thanks Mike,

I personally found pretty much exactly what you listed as true for the Pro V1x vs the V1.  I couldn't have said it better myself.  ;-)

I am not a long hitter either and I have found that I hit the pro v1 about 5 yds farther and just as straight. In fact, both balls play almost identical in every aspect of the game to me. I like the pro v1 marginaly better because it has a touch softer feel, which helps when it is colder. I play either one according to the time of year and course conditions. Also, a lot of guys at the club play the 1x so I usually play the v1.

The Pro V1X is a little more firm than the Pro V1.  The Pro V1 is a little softer and I find has a little more spin.  The Pro V1X off the tee is longer for me.  I can usually hit one less club when using the Pro V1X.

I like the X model because of the less spin on the driver.  I tend to draw the ball and with the ProV1 I was almost hooking it due to too much spin.  It is a matter of preference, but the X was a lot better for me.

You know for me it just depends on the course condiditons...If I'm playing in wind I like to use the Pro V1x just to keep the spin rate and launch low but, if I'm playing a dry fast course I prefer the added spin from the Pro V1 while still maintaining my preferred flight...It all depends on the person, you know?

What do you guys think for a 12 year old?

The Pro V1 is the best ball for my game.  I like the 1x as well, but with half iron shots the Pro V1 just does it for me.  Either ball is a good choice, but you'll never know until YOU try.
