I have been doing some reading on the discussion boards about the Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf ball series.  I have been a Pro V1x player for years, but continually wonder what the difference in my game would be with the Pro V1.

I have gone through the self fitting tool on Titleist's website that asks specifics about types of shots, and then makes the recommendation.  For some reason even when I try to answer the questions wrong, it seems to always recommend the Pro V1x.

If they are both going to react the same around the green due to not compressing the core of the ball, what really is the reason one would use the Pro V1 over the Pro V1x?   Why not just make 1 ball that covers length off the tee and feel around the green?

Id be interested in hearing what people have to say.

    Thanks,

    Wes

    Hi Wes,

Based on my game, the Pro V1x works better for me as my long game (particularly my driver) is not as straight as I'd like.

With the Pro V1x, shots off my driver fly straighter and a bit lower that the Pro V1. Also having a high-swing speed (high-spin player), I don't need any of the extra spin that the V1 may offer.

Really the best way to determine which ball is better for you is to play a round using both balls on all shots.

    Cheers!

This will be a mixed bag of thoughts...I LOVE the 1x, and have for many years, but with approach shots and greenside chips the new 1x seems a little "firmer" but still has moderate spin. I have played the 1 recently, and noticed it seems a little softer all-around with MORE spin on approach shots and greeside chips. I agree with Jeff in using both golf balls on all types of shots and see which fits you best. I now regret turning my back on the 1x, and going with the 1...But if it means lower scores and shots closer to the hole, I am all for it.

    Hope this helps,

    Trey

People that tend to hit the ball low, or with less velocity, will want more spin on the full swing shots.

People that tend to hit the ball high and/or more velocity want less spin on full swing shots.

If you tend to overcurve then you want less spin.  If you say you are missing your target area with long game shots it will assume it is because of sidespin not because you are aimed wrong, thus it will recommend V1x.

I plan on trying both this year, but not right now, our greens are being repaired and unless the ball has spikes it won't stop.

I'm still playing the '09 versions and can play both models but I have a slower swing speed. The pro v is my ball of choice on most days, esp. if I'm playing a course where iron play is critical but play the 1x when it's more of an open course or on days when I'm aggresive with my swing so I can take some of the side spin off the ball. My home course recently got the 2011 versions so I'm hoping to try them in the next few weeks. I get about the same distance with both, within 5-7 yrds.
