Had the opportunity to play both of the new styles over tha past couple of days.  Off the driver, about 7 yds more carry.  Irons were about the same increase in distance.  Putter seem to give a more positve feed back.  Only problem is that with an A wedge thru lob wedge, found that after hitting the approach shots to 3 holes, the covers were wripped.  The balls were the sleeves received from Titleist, of which were greatly appreciated, but could these have been a bad batch?  I remember the test balls of which seem to last a round before the covers were wripped. Has anyone else experienced the same?

How old are your wedges. and are they the old or new groove wedges. I scuff a ball with almost every wedge shot that isnt a chip. and thats with both the old and new ProvX's. I've scuffed balls with 5 Irons before so i dont think it was a bad batch. Maybe you just hit your wedge pure and discovered it .

    Hi guys,

Thanks for the feedback. We really appreciate hearing what our Team Titleist members have to say and it's helpful to hear about the different experiences.  As for your questions on the Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls and their cover, here is a little more background information.

The cover of the Pro V1 and Pro V1x features Urethane, a soft material that compresses against the club face on impact.  Urethane is a material that transmits a softer sensation to the hands and provide more spin than Surlyn-covered golf ball models. The Pro V1,  and Pro V1x are designed primarily to maximize spin and feel for higher overall performance.

New irons and wedges will all have a tendency to shear the golf ball (for some people) because the grooves are new and sharper. The shear affect does vary from player to player and the characteristics of a player's swing in combination with the design of their higher lofted clubs can also have a major impact on abrasions due to iron shots (called "shear damage").  If you tend to be steeper on your attack, you may see more shearing then if you were more shallow.

Thanks Mike for your reply.  I have a steep attack angle and my son is a little more shallow.  Both of us have a very aggressive wedge / short game for it's what we pratice the most.  My son was named the section 5 player of the year for the 2nd straight year and plays between 0 and 3 pending the time of the year.  Practice is our game for we have our normal routine of something like the Big Break, but without the glass panels.

Vokey wedges of less than 3 months old.  I use the 52 wedge for 115 to 125 yards, 56 for 95 to 110 and 60 for under 95 yds. All had the same effect.  Steep angle of attack maybe the issue.  Thank you for your reply

I have not played the New Pro V 1s yet but have played the Pro V 1x and I did not expweience the scuffing of the golf ball

I also have the problem of severly scuffing my golf balls. I play the prov1 and from my 60 degree thru my 7 iron i tend to scuff up the surface fairly badly. The new prov1x for me has improved from last years model tremendously. Great distance and unbeatable controll around the greens. The new prov1 on the other hand seems to be more like a NXT ball. I feel like its not nearly as soft feeling as last years model and seems to spin less.

Ok, which is it? I've read the '011 ProV1 has more spin than the previous models and also that it spins less. I suspect the ball will react/play different with different swings.......but overall from a manufacturing /performance stand point from Titleist, does the new '011 have more or less spin than previous models? The ad actually states...."more spin control". Will Titleist give us their interpretation of this statement please?  Thanks.

PS: I do have 4 dozen personalized ProV1's coming but still waiting on their arrival. I guess I can wait some more, temp was 32* this morning here in NW Ohio. :(

    Hi Augustin,

Here are some details around the new Pro V1 and Pro V1x that should help answer your question.

With the new Pro V1 we’re incorporating two new features in 2011. The first enhancement we’ve made is to the core technology. It’s an innovative, new ZG process core technology that allows us to produce the most uniform core we’ve ever made. This process also enables us to take our already high quality standards to the next level when it comes to core-to-core uniformity. The new Pro V1 also has an increase in spin compared to the prior generation. We’ve also changed the dimple design to a spherically tiled 352 tetrahedral dimple design which results in a penetrating and more consistent flight.

With the new Pro V1x, we have the same dual core construction as the previous generation that delivers the same spin and feel characteristics Pro V1x players have come to expect. Pro V1x has entirely new aerodynamic package. We’ve implemented a new spherically tiled 328 tetrahedral design. This new dimple pattern delivers higher trajectory and a peak that is further down range. The result is increased carry distances for most players.  Similar to the new Pro V1, the new dimple design is also creating a more consistent ball flight. Throughout the testing process, players have reported outstanding performance from both golf balls in windy conditions.

I found the old Pro V1 to spin the most, but not by much.  That said, both the new Pro V1 and 1X are great balls.  I get a better flight with both the new balls than I did with the old balls on longer approach shots (outside 150) and drives.  With full swings 150 and in I can't tell a difference.  Only with 1/2 swings and spinney chips did I notice a difference in spin and I still found it very subtle.

The durability of the Pro V1 is dramatically improved IMO.  I used to shred the older model Pro V in one hole all the time.  The newer ones will at least make it through 3 and most of the time through 9, and some have made it through an entire round and looked pretty good.

I’ve always been a Pro V guy; I thought about switching to the new X, but I ended up saying Pro V, because I scored better wtih that ball.  Give me a ball without a number or an AIM marker and I bet I couldn't tell you which one it is (new 1 or 1x).

Now lets hope it warms up!

I have found both new balls are shorter than the old balls.

    Mike,

Thank you for your reply and explanation. That helped me understand what was put in the new ball and the expected results.

My 4 doz of Pro V1s are out for delivery in the big Brown truck and should be here within the hour. I can't wait. Weather still sucks here as it's currently 39* and raining.

Josh, thank you too for your review of the new ProVs. I agree that the previous generation balls did shred rather quickly but it was worth it to see the faces on my playing partners when the ball checks or even spin back a bit. As a matter of fact, one of them(friend) said to me: I used to like you better when your short game sucked!  Haha. That was before I bought the Vokey wedges and started playing the Pro V1s. That said, I can't wait to try the new ones.

In finishing, thank you Titleist for these great products that actually help even the playing field a bit against "some" of these players that are long off the tee!

Well, my new Pro V1s arrived today.......albiet only 3 of the 4 doz showed up. I took advantage of the special offer of buy 3 get 1 free personalized deal. After 3 weeks they finally showed up but only three doz.. I called the place I ordered from and explained the situation and they said they would get back to me after they try to find out what happened.

Question for anybody that ordered the buy 3 get the 4th free. Is this the std method Titleist ships them out, 3 now, the fourth later?I'm thinking there was some kind of mix up with my order. Hope they can resolve it quickly and ship my 4th doz..

I did this deal last year and got all 4 dozens at the same time. I did it this year and would hope all come at once again. I'm sure it was a communication error or something. I know they only ring up 3 dozen. I'm sure Titleiest will make it right.

    Hello all.. Just needed to add my three cents;

I have been playing the new ProV1x for about 10 rounds. I've played 36 holes in a day w/ the same ball & it did not scuff at all. I have yet to get through my 1st box of balls. So I would have to say $46 bucks for a dozen is not so bad. We, definitely, get what we pay for!!!
