I wanted to know the distance difference between the two. I use a 910 d3 8.5 and hit ball medium flight with woods and 3 iron but high with every other club. I also wanted to know what ball is best for short game.

    Hi Tanner,

Thanks for the question. Here is some more detail from a recent blog post (http://www.titleist.com/teamtitleist/b/tourblog/archive/2011/03/29/titleist-golf-ball-r-amp-d-team-answers-your-questions.aspx) where we sat down with the Golf Ball R&D team to get some more insight. Here is what they had to say about the new Pro V1 and Pro V1x:

Titleist Golf Ball R&D: With the new Pro V1 we’re incorporating two new features in 2011. The first enhancement we’ve made is to the core technology. It’s an innovative, new ZG process core technology that allows us to produce the most uniform core we’ve ever made. This process also enables us to take our already high quality standards to the next level when it comes to core-to-core uniformity. The new Pro V1 also has an increase in spin compared to the prior generation. We’ve also changed the dimple design to a spherically tiled 352 tetrahedral dimple design which results in a penetrating and more consistent flight.

With the new Pro V1x, we have the same dual core construction as the previous generation that delivers the same spin and feel characteristics Pro V1x players have come to expect. Pro V1x has entirely new aerodynamic package. We’ve implemented a new spherically tiled 328 tetrahedral design. This new dimple pattern delivers higher trajectory and a peak that is further down range. The result is increased carry distances for most players.  Similar to the new Pro V1, the new dimple design is also creating a more consistent ball flight. Throughout the testing process, players have reported outstanding performance from both golf balls in windy conditions.

As for your question regarding which ball is best for your short game, my advice would be to compare the golf balls side-by-side by hitting some short game shots and see which one performs better for you. We recommend hitting some partial swing wedge shots first and then work your way back to some full wedge shots to compare the short game performance. At the end of the day, the best place to to determine the golf ball that fits your game and will ultimately help you lower your scores is on the golf course.

Can you tell me roughly how big the distance gap is.

Hey Mike. I wanted to know your opinion on which ball ( pro v1 or pro v1x) you think you get the most out of if your a highly skilled player that treats chipping and putting as the most important aspect  of the game.

    Thanks,

    Tanner

The average distance between the bottom line DT Solo Carry to the Pro V1's is only about 8 yards.  The biggest difference is how they differ around the greens.  You should look into doing a ball fitting.  Distance is not the most meaningful stat in golf; The GIR's are more important and Titleist has done a tremendous job on the aerodynamics of the new Pro V1's.  Also the reduction is dimples on the Pro V1's has helped with ball flight as well.

    Hi Tanner, Hi Brandon,

Just to clarify the distance gap question, what we have seen through our extensive robot and player testing is a distance gap of 4 to 5 yards between all Titleist golf ball models.

How much different are the balls in spin feel distance and trajectory

    Hi Tanner,

The new Pro V1x delivers the same spin and feel characteristics as the prior generation. Some of the primary enhancements focus around the new aerodynamic package. We’ve implemented a new spherically tiled 328 tetrahedral design. This new dimple pattern delivers higher trajectory and a peak that is further down range. The result is increased carry distances for most players and a more consistent ball flight.
