To any and all that can help. I have been struggling for the last two summers with breaking par. I have lost track the number of times that I have shot even par for the entire round with either a front or back nine being -1 or better. My personal record for nine holes by itself is -4. My last round I played, I was three under after seven but could only shoot even after two doubles on holes 8 and 10. This isn't the first time that I have been under par by some amount for more than a couple holes and not been able to close. Does anyone out there have any suggestions on what to do or focus on?

When your playin good just dont  keep track of your score just write it on the card nd forget about it.

Although it sounds boring, it is important that you start to track your round. Keep track of the number of: fairways hit, greens hit, putts per green, sand saves, and up and downs made.

Once you have a few round of data, sit down with your PGA Professional and review where you are losing your shots. You can then develop a plan to tighten up your game around the weaknesses you have found.

It is difficult to know what to fix with a player that is at or near par pretty much every round they play. If you ask them where the shots that cost them a better round where most of then can't answer the question. By tracking every shot you will be able to determine exactly where your weakness is and get it sorted out.

I would even suggest tracking your misses to a level of detail. Which side of the fairway or green did you miis on. Where you short or long with the approach? These are important to the best players in the world, so we should think that way when trying to fine tune our games.

    Best of Luck!

I agree wholeheartedly with 19hole - I have been keeping my stats religiously and it clearly highlights where you are losing strokes and where you are doing well - a BIG help.  And now with the Titleist "my game" feature here, you can view your stats easily.

Great playing Gaetan - I would highly recommend a book called "Fearless Golf" by Dr. Gio Valiante,  who works with several tour pros.  It is chock full of really great information that helps get your mind right on the course.  One of his ideas is to have a single thought or small group of thoughts on the course  - all non-mechanical in nature - the main one is, "what is my target" - and that becomes the mantra for every shot, nothing else, no swing thoughts, etc.  I followed this for the two rounds that I had in the 70s this season - not sure if that was the reason, but I know fir sure that it helped immensely because I felt very calm on the course, not having to worry about my swing - just focused completely on the target.

Hope it helps you break par.

Appreciate the tips thus far, if anyone else has anything else to say I would be grateful as well. To those who have already replied, thank you; I'll try to put some of that to practice.
