I was practicing today, working on my swing, trying to keep improving, and getting ready for a match I have this weekend, and I was focusing on my grip.  Specifically, really trying to have it on the club in a neutral position and emphasizing the grip pressure in the last 3 fingers of my left hand and the middle 2 fingers of my right hand (I'm a righty) and I've never hit the ball better!  It felt like my swing was on a better path going back (I have a tendency to pull the club inside and fan it open), and it also felt like I truly released through the ball - the flight was strong - high but powerful.

All of the articles and books that I have read that stated how vital it was to get the grip right, and how having a proper grip really enables you to swing the club properly, suddenly clicked and made sense.

Has anyone else had this experience, and any other thoughts on the grip that you would like to share?

    Cheers,

I just experienced a grip awakening while playing in a charity scramble. One of the guys plays with a +1 handicap. His swing is tight and powerful. even though my drives were mostly down the middle this guy would blow by 40-50 yards each time. My grip consisted of a very strong left hand where i could see 3 knuckles. My right hand was way over the top gong to the left. This grip I picked up from Hogan book and videos. He told me to bring back my right hand so the V would go more towards the right shoulder, He stated that my grip preventd me from rolling my right hand over for a strong and full release of the club as I came through the ball. He was right on. took a few hits to get used to the look and feel but what a difference in the flight of the ball and the distance.
