After using my new irons and wedges for a while now, where is a better place to practice now.  Spend more range time or spend more time in the course?

Since May 1st, I have logged in 2-18hole rounds, 2-9hole rounds and went to the range 4 times. And even a session with my instructor.  As anyone would say, practicing in the range is completely different than being on the course.  How would you go, in order to start playing good with your new clubs?

I think the best practice is always on the course, I recommend going to the course late, paying for twilight...using 3 or4 balls and work with your clubs like that.

I find the most important thing in swinging is an extremely soft grip. It adds so much distance it's crazy.

I try to hit the range for 40 or balls a week in addition to 9-18 on the weekend. Use the range to experiment/work on the last issue and then just play for fun on the course. I've spent way too much time looking like Kevin Naa by trying to fix my swing on the course. Just focus on a consistent routine at the course and enjoy. No sense in f-bombing on a misshit. No one else enjoys that and you need to relax before the next shot becomes your next misshit. I'll never win enough on a club prize to change my life, but my greens fee will be wasted if I don't enjoy it.

The real challenge is on how to get some practice time... Simply put, just enjoy and play.  "When you swear on the course, you will end up swearing a couple more times."  As you will end up hitting more bad shots when you swear... hehe

Spot on Wes... did that this past Thurs.  Playing two balls is also good.

I would definite choose practice on the course.  Unless you are undergoing swing changes the course is a best way to get to know your new clubs.Maybe shoot a couple of balls from every location.  Especially if you feel that the club played very different to you old club.

Good luck - very exciting times breakin a new set of clubs.

Thanks.  Really is joyful breaking in new clubs... and satisfying when you hit a good shot.
