  1. Hi guys,

I need some help; I want to spin the ball more on my partial swing shots. I am excellent with full swing iron shots and holding the green is no issue, but my partial swing wedge shots are a struggle as far as spin. If anyone has any helpful tips to getting the ball to check up. I've heard a lot of tips, but I need help with delivering an acute stop. Thanks a lot!

Make sure your wedges are clean.  I know this sounds basic, but it makes a ton of difference.  Also play with your ball position.  Some players play it front of center to hit it higher and some play it back to ensure they're hitting down on the ball which is how you make it spin the first place.  Some basic practice and clean clubs will help you get that check you're looking for.

I'm guessing your thinking along the lines of a 50 yard shot.  Swing with really soft hands and a smooth swing.  With good contact with a sand or lob wedge it should stop on the second hop.

  5. I sometime find that it is really important to accelerate past the ball and pinch the ball instead of taking a normal divot. If it is something like a 50 yard shot, I like to shorten my swing up and make sure i dont decelerate through the ball. My problem is that my swing is pretty long, so this shot can be difficult for me because I take the club back to parallel without even noticing. Shorten the backswing up, accelerate down and through just pinching the ball, and finish a little higher than normal. It should help you hit the ball high and soft. Also, trying to hit a little cut will help as well. As I am sure you know, fades don't go as far as draws do, and that is mainly because fades have more spin than draws do. If I want to hit a shot that runs out, I try to draw it a little bit. If you set up a little open, swing along your feet line, and hold the club slightly open through impact you should be able to spin it easily with good contact. This has worked for me and I hope it works for you!
