Watching Bubba Watson this spring recaptured my love for golf. It was at a point where my game was in the toilet and then it hit me as I saw him hook the wedge in the playoff. You don't need to be perfect to play golf, I mean look where he hit the drive. Playing golf is all about being comfortable and having fun. I emediatley went back to the simple tips my grandpa taught me on things like reading greens and shot shaping. My handicap went from 11 to 7 in 2 months and is still dropping. Remember it is always good to take a lesson here or there to fix a huge problem, but no more than ounce a month unless your a tour player. Amatuers just need have a good time and go back to the things that feel right and are easy to manage.

Have fun "digging it out of the dirt"

There is a certain charm in just enjoying the game, good or bad.  My wife started this year (over 60) and we still have a long way to go to get her down the fairway at 100+ yards a clip.  However, while I only use half as many strokes, she is just loving the experience and being outside.  I'm learning patience and we do let the serious ones go by, but it does make it easier for her to let me play some without her now that we do have time together.

Definitely need some lessons (every 4-6 weeks during a season or starting a month before courses open) to get started in the game.  Once you have consistency with a swing, it is what it is unless you want to spend 2-4 times a week working on your game.

Had my first lesson yesterday and absolutely loved it.  I got my driver straightened out had an overall great time.  Can't wait to go back, and definetly recommend them to everyone out there.  You can always get better at this sport.

Golf is one sport where you constantly work on one thing or another.  The Six Sigma folks would love it! (constant process improvement)     We're always looking at ways to play better, simplify our game and add shots to our arsenal.

The Navy and Marine Corps sometimes have free golf clinics to active duty personnel during lunch hour (generally Tues).  I took advantage of one at 32nd St and got a good lesson about timing.

Back in the old days, our caddie master (who was also the assistant golf pro at the Country Club) gave a pointer that added 20 yards to my golf shots (playing hands ahead of the ball at address).
